The Supervisor, Editorial Projects plays a crucial role within our organization overseeing the development and delivery of Scouting America publications across various media formats to advance our mission through impactful communication and engagement strategies. In this role, you will be responsible for creating and managing editorial content for program handbooks, pamphlets, guides, certificates, logos, and other related materials. Leading the Editorial Projects team, you’ll collaborate with a dynamic team of photographers, editors, and designers to produce high-quality content that meet brand, quality, and philosophical standards.
The Supervisory role also involves determining the best media for content distribution, negotiates fees for printed materials, manages the departmental budget and coordinates with related departments for digital publication production. Responsibilities
- Responsible for the performance, results, and production output of the editors, designers, and photo and imaging staff. Decisions are guided by resource availability and production objectives.
- Ensures that the content of publications aligns with the brand and philosophy of Scouting.
- Prioritizes and oversees editorial research, production, and publication team performance and development. Manages vendor workflow and relations for publications production.
- Initiates new editorial programs, prototypes, and design revisions as needed.
- Manages budgets to ensure cost control and adherence to financial guidelines, anticipating and adjusting budgets as necessary.
- Serves as a content writer for magazines, websites, digital media productions, and other publications.
- Determines the appropriate media and format for content release (print, web, mobile, etc.). Ensures on-time releases in accordance with production schedules and communication timetables internally and externally.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

- Knowledge of: Editorial workflow, from manuscript acquisition to publication, including editing, copywriting, design, and production; current trends, market demands, and technological advancements in publishing; copyright laws and regulations related to publishing; editorial software (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite); applying relevant style guides.
- Skill in: Motivating and guiding editorial teams, fostering a collaborative and productive work environment; planning, assigning tasks, tracking progress, and meeting deadlines within budget constraints; written and verbal communication skills to interact effectively with editors, writers, designers, and other stakeholders; analyzing and solving complex editorial issues; finding creative solutions to meet deadlines and maintain brand standards.
