Position Summary

The CPS/Private Trip Operations Manager is responsible for the leadership and oversight of SCR’s Chicago Public Schools (CPS) routes, private medical trips, and Pace Taxi trips. This individual manages daily operations, supervises union employees, ensures compliance with contractual requirements, and drives operational efficiency across diverse service lines. Success in this role is measured by trip execution quality, labor utilization, and cost control.

Pay is $65,000-$80,000 depending on experience.


Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee day-to-day operations for all assigned CPS, private, and Pace Taxi trips.

  • Monitor and manage trip efficiency and labor as a percentage of revenue to meet operational and financial targets.

  • Ensure proper staffing levels through oversight of daily scheduling, call-outs, and shift adjustments.

  • Collaborate with dispatch, HR, and training teams to ensure appropriate driver coverage and readiness.

  • Maintain strong relationships with school and municipal partners to ensure service quality and responsiveness.

  • Manage union workforce in compliance with collective bargaining agreements.

  • Address operational issues swiftly, including missed trips, vehicle availability, and driver concerns.

  • Contribute to strategic route planning and contract compliance monitoring.

  • Participate in recruiting, hiring, onboarding, and performance management of operations staff and drivers.

  • Support company safety initiatives and maintain a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.

  • Identify and implement process improvements that reduce overtime and enhance vehicle utilization.

  • Provide regular reporting on trip volume, labor metrics, and budget adherence.

  • Perform other duties as assigned to support overall company goals.


Qualifications

  • Minimum of 3 years of transportation management experience; experience in school bus or paratransit operations preferred.

  • Minimum of 1 year of supervisory experience in a unionized environment.

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate’s or bachelor’s degree preferred.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage large-scale daily operations while delivering on efficiency targets.

  • Experience interpreting and applying labor contracts.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; familiarity with Trapeze, RouteGenie, or similar scheduling software is a plus.

  • Strong interpersonal, problem-solving, and communication skills.

  • Ability to work flexible hours as needed, including early mornings or evenings based on operational demands.
