Opportunity Overview
SD Solutions is seeking a highly motivated and innovative Cell Biologist or Bioengineer to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in non-cryogenic cell preservation technologies. As a leading agency in health innovation, ARPA-H focuses on creating breakthrough technologies and methodologies to advance the health of the nation. The researcher will play a critical role in driving this mission forward. The successful applicant will serve as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) to an ARPA-H Program Manager. This engineer will apply their expertise to developing breakthrough biological, material, and processing technologies to enable the preservation of cells at non-cryogenic temperatures.
The Advanced Research Projects Agency for Health (ARPA-H) is a new agency within the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). It is a research funding agency that supports transformative biomedical and health breakthroughs to provide health solutions for all. ARPA-H accelerates better health outcomes for everyone by supporting the development of high-impact solutions to society's most challenging health problems. These opportunities will advance high-potential, high-impact biomedical and health research that cannot be readily accomplished through traditional research or commercial activity. With a scope spanning the molecular to the societal, these programs have the potential to radically improve everyone's health.
Responsibilities Include but are limited to:
- Contribute to a multidisciplinary team that will develop breakthrough biological, material, and processing technologies to enable the preservation of cells at non-cryogenic temperatures.
- Utilize both internal and external resources to support technical and programmatic goals.
- Develop and provide sub-domain subject matter expertise as needed.
- Perform market and regulatory analyses, technical due diligence, literature reviews and generate briefing documents summarizing technical topics related to cell and gene therapies, biomanufacturing, cell preservation, anhydrobiosis, and other natural adaptations to stress.
- Evaluate technical proposals for scientific merit and innovation. Provide feedback, organize reviewer comments, draft recommendations and project summaries, and presentation materials.
- Develop technical and administrative programmatic documentation on short timelines to communicate technical approach, progress, cost, schedule and risk for advanced technology development efforts.
Requirements Overview
- A PhD with 2 years of experience is preferred.
OR
- MS with 5 years of experience.
OR
- BA with 7 years of experience is acceptable.
- The ideal candidate will have a degree in a related field (Biology, Chemistry, Bioengineering, Biotechnology).
- A strong foundational understanding of cell biology or bioengineering and a high comfort level with new biotechnologies.
- Team oriented with exceptional communication, writing, and organizational skills.
- Ability for quick response and dedicated to continuous improvement.
- Strong critical thinking and decision-making skills.
- Experience with bioassays to evaluate biological activity and function.
Additional Experience
- Experience with discovery, development, and manufacturing of cell therapies.
- Experience with biopharmaceutical processing technologies (ex. lyophilization, spray-drying, fill-finish).
- Familiarity with FDA regulated commercial technology development.
- Familiarity with industry leaders and disrupters.
- Prior experience supporting ARPA-like programs (e.g., DARPA, IARPA, APRA-E) or U.S. DoD advanced development programs is desired, but not required.
