The Ness School of Management and Economics (Ness School) at South Dakota State University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Agribusiness. The Ness School seeks a dynamic scholar with the ability to address in their teaching and research portfolios current and emerging trends in the agribusiness industry. Research outcomes associated with this position must satisfy the academic standards AACSB associates with its faculty-status classification, Scholarly Academic. Teaching responsibilities associated with this position include courses supporting the Ness School’s agribusiness and agricultural economics majors and several agribusiness-related minors. Specific teaching responsibilities associated with this position include, but are not limited to, courses such as agribusiness sales, agricultural business management, agricultural marketing & prices, farm & ranch management, global food systems, and introduction to cooperatives, and will be assigned dependent upon the strengths and interests of the successful candidate and the needs of the School. This is a 9-month, full-time, benefit eligible, tenure-track position. The position is supervised by the Director of the Ness School of Management and Economics. We anticipate a start date of January 2024, but this is negotiable. RESPONSIBILITIES:Lead with exceptional pedagogy in the classroom and through undergraduate and graduate student mentorship.Teach undergraduate and/or graduate courses in conventional face-to face on-campus formats and, potentially, through emerging modes of remote delivery, including hybrid and/or other online formats.Maintain high research productivity resulting regularly in peer-reviewed, scholarly publications in top-tier academic journals and presentations at national or international forums and school-sponsored outreach events that tightly align with the field areas associated with this position, meet the school’s tenure-and-promotion standards, and satisfy the academic standards the school associates with its AACSB-faculty-status classification, Scholarly Academic.Participate in Ness School and contribute meaningfully to shared governance across the university.Report to the Director of the Ness School of Management and Economics. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:The occupant of this assistant professorship in agribusiness must:Hold a Ph.D. in agricultural or applied economics, agribusiness, business or closely related field by hiring date.Possess the potential for effective teaching, research, and outreach outcomes.Possess knowledge of the U.S. agribusiness and food sectors.Communicate effectively with a variety of audiences on and off campus.Possess excellent organizational, time-management, and interpersonal skills.
