South Dakota State University (SDSU) is offering an exciting career opportunity as an Environmental Health & Safety Manager. The Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Manager is responsible for providing management and oversight of a safe working environment in laboratory spaces and other areas of the University for occupational health and safety programs, including development, implementation, administration, and evaluation for regulatory compliance aligned with university risk management strategies.This is a 12- month, full-time, benefit-eligible position located in Brookings, SD.South Dakota State University promotes access to and opportunities for all to receive the benefit of and participate in education, research, and service and is especially interested in candidates that can contribute to this land-grant mission of access.Must be authorized to work in the U.S. Sponsorship is not available for this position. RESPONSIBILITIES:This position manages the Environmental Health and Safety unit that assists the University with maintaining compliance with the federal, state, and local regulations associated with environmental, chemical, and radiological issues. Working in conjunction with faculty, staff, and students, it promotes a safe working environment in laboratory spaces as well as other areas on campus. The EHS Manager ensures the unit assists with the proper collection and management of hazardous materials, accomplishing this through a cooperative effort with the University community.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Bachelor’s degree in Physical Sciences, Engineering, or Biological Science completed by date of application.At least three years of experience related to working with environmental health and safety programs.Knowledge of environmental health and safety regulations.Ability to analyze and interpret technical documents or regulations.Ability to effectively organize and present information, data, ideas, and concepts in written and presentation format.Ability to foster teamwork by maintaining a positive, cooperative, productive work atmosphere while establishing effective working relationships.Valid driver’s license or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire.Qualified to be the Radiation Safety Officer within 6 months of start date.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: At least two years of supervisory experience.Experience in radiation safety.Experience in a higher education environment with teaching and research activities.BENEFITS:South Dakota State University offers a wide range of benefits including medical, dental, and flexible benefits, retirement plans, compensation packages, paid holidays, and vacation leave.
