TRIO McNair Project Director -Northern State University seeks applications for the position of TRIO McNair Project Director. The TRIO McNair program is a service within the Student Success Center, which is part of the Academic Affairs division of Northern State University. This is a full-time, 12-month, grant-funded, benefited position.Position DescriptionThe TRIO McNair Project Director will manage and oversee services provided to students enrolled in NSU’s TRIO Ronald E. McNair Postbaccalaureate Achievement Program, which empowers students to pursue graduate studies by providing outstanding support and resources that encourage students’ personal, academic, and professional achievement.The Director will oversee all aspects of Northern State University’s McNair Program, including curriculum design, participant recruitment, program evaluation, and project management. The Director will plan, implement, and assess services provided by the McNair program including research or other scholarly activities; student internship opportunities; seminars and educational programming; academic support services; graduate school admission assistance; financial aid guidance; and academic tutoring. The Director will assist the recruitment of eligible students to the TRIO McNair program. The Director will coordinate the faculty mentor program for the project and directly supervise the TRIO McNair Research Coordinator at Northern State University.The Director will also manage all facets of the federal grant from the U.S. Department of Education (ED) including, but not limited to, oversight of the TRIO McNair grant application process; maintain federally compliant record; prepare annual budget; track student contacts; and prepare and submit the Annual Performance Report (APR). The Director will build and maintain positive relationships with other campus units, including academic programs; faculty; tutoring; Career Services; Honors Program; Good Circle Program; Accessibility Services; Enrollment Management; and Student Affairs to collaborate on programming, marketing, and retention efforts. The Director will work in partnership with the TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) and TRIO Upward Bound (UB) programs at NSU, and other TRIO projects. The TRIO McNair Project Director is responsible daily tasks associated with the McNair program, which include:Coordinate McNair staff meetings discussing workflow; caseloads; and programming.Lead McNair assessments of required and permissible project services to evaluate program effectiveness.Monitor student participation levels and intervention strategies following national best practices, and participants’ progress in accordance with ED requirements.Maintain, update, develop, and implement processes and services to assist McNair participants in graduate school research, preparation, exploration, financial literacy, and admission.Lead efforts to manage and guide the faculty mentor program, and research and internship opportunities. Assist scholars in applying and presenting at scholarly conferences.Develop and host an annual McNair Summer Institute and pre-orientation program, and other cultural and educational opportunities to help prepare students for doctoral studies.Manage the McNair grant budget, adhere to all fiscal and programming regulations, and follow institutional protocols regarding purchases and budget management.Review and adhere to grant project regulations and notices for funding opportunities.Complete associated tasks requested by ED to ensure continued funding for the project including an annual performance report (APR) and other reports as needed.The Director will also prepare continuation budgets proposals. The Director is responsible for preparing and developing grant proposals to secure funding for new and continuing project awards. The Director will supervise the McNair Research Coordinator.Required Formal Education and Training:Doctoral degree preferred; Master’s degree required from an accredited institution. Research-based master’s degree in any academic discipline preferred; professional degrees in counseling, education, or related field will be considered.Training, either pre- or post-hire, in planning, implementing, and assessing services, including academic advising, high-impact educational practices for graduate school planning and doctoral level preparation, and mentoring in a university setting.Preferred 3-5 years of experience in teaching, researching, and mentoring students.Preferred Requirements:Experience designing and/or implementing high impact educational programs, including scholarly research, internships, service learning, and others.Previous grant writing or grant administration experience.Proven ability to work with and understand the needs of McNair-eligible students.Experience working with students from a variety of backgrounds.Proven ability to design and manage effective academic support services.Proven ability to manage budgets.Program assessment knowledge and experience.Proven ability to work effectively with other people, collaborate with other departments, and advocate for students underrepresented in education.Individuals who have been recipients of TRIO services or who are McNair Scholars, or who are from a similar background as students served are encouraged to apply.The Student Success Center at NSU includes professionals in tutoring, academic advising, academic support, Career Services, American Indian Circle Program, TRIO Student Support Services, TRIO Upward Bound and supplemental instruction.
