TRIO McNair Research CoordinatorNorthern State University seeks applications for the position of TRIO McNair Research Coordinator. The TRIO McNair program is a service within the Student Success Center, which is part of the Academic Affairs division of Northern State University. This is a full-time, 12-month, grant-funded, benefited position.Position DescriptionThe TRIO McNair Research Coordinator will be responsible for the development of academic programming and services unique to students enrolled in NSU’s TRIO Ronald E. McNair Postbaccalaureate Achievement Program, which empowers students to pursue graduate studies by providing outstanding support and resources that encourage students’ personal, academic, and professional achievement.In partnership with the TRIO McNair Project Director, the TRIO McNair Research Coordinator will develop and implement meaningful academic programming and services to prepare McNair participants for graduate school. The Research Coordinator will work directly with McNair participants, helping to develop students individualized action plans for graduate school attainment. The Coordinator also will keep active records, report data, and assist with evaluations of all project services to assist with ED required reporting and other assessments.The Coordinator will assist in the recruitment of eligible students to the TRIO McNair program and will build and maintain positive relationships with other campus units, including academic programs; faculty; tutoring; Career Services; Honors Program; Good Circle Program; Accessibility Services; Enrollment Management; and Student Affairs to collaborate on programming, marketing, and retention efforts. The Director will work in partnership with the TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) and TRIO Upward Bound (UB) programs at NSU, and other TRIO projects.The TRIO McNair Research Coordinator is responsible tasks associated with the McNair program which include:Plan and implement seminars and other educational programming related to success topics including financial literacy, funding and preparing for graduate school, graduate school interviews, writing abstracts, GRE preparation, portfolio preparation, career guidance, and leadership development.Mentor project participants through a personalized Academic and Engagement Profile and Research Benchmarks and Rubric. Provide graduate school advice and academic counseling.Monitor students’ academic growth and provide information on academic programs and success resources. Provide academic support directly to project participants.Assist with an annual NSU McNair Summer Institute and pre-orientation program, and other cultural and educational opportunities to help prepare students for doctoral studies. Coordinate travel for graduate school tours, research conferences, and other events for participants. Provide information and referrals to McNair participants for graduate school entrance and financial aid opportunities.Assist in implementing and evaluating McNair project services. Track progression of McNair participants through PhD attainment and update personal and academic records. Review and adhere to grant project regulations and notices for funding opportunities.The Coordinator will help other NSU personnel prepare and develop grant proposals to secure funding for new and continuing project awards.The TRIO McNair Research Coordinator will report to the TRIO McNair Project Director.Required Formal Education and Training:Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred from an accredited institution.Prior experience with academic advising, counseling, research, or teaching.Preferred Requirements:Prior experience in developing, designing, and implementing educational programming.Training, either pre- or post-hire, in planning, implementing, and assessing services, including academic advising, high-impact educational practices for graduate school planning and doctoral level preparation, and mentoring in a university setting.Proven ability to work with and understand the needs of McNair-eligible students.Experience working with students from a variety of backgrounds.Proven ability to design and manage effective academic support services.Program assessment knowledge and experience.Proven ability to work effectively with other people, collaborate with other departments, and advocate for students underrepresented in education.Individuals who have been recipients of TRIO services or who are McNair Scholars, or who are from a similar background as students served are encouraged to apply.The Student Success Center at NSU includes professionals in tutoring, academic advising, academic support, Career Services, American Indian Circle Program, TRIO Student Support Services, TRIO Upward Bound and supplemental instruction.
