YOUR OPPORTUNITY

We have an exciting Senior Transportation Safety Specialist opportunity in our Guymon, OK office. The Senior Safety Specialist will provide senior-level leadership to drive safety initiatives for all animal support operations, with a primary focus on DOT regulated vehicles and all non-DOT regulated light utility vehicles. This role is responsible for ensuring compliance with Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (FMCSR) and other relevant DOT regulations, as well as promoting a safe work environment within the company. This role involves managing driver qualification files, conducting safety training, investigating accidents, and staying current with industry best practices and regulatory changes.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the senior safety advisor for animal support operations, ensuring alignment with OSHA and DOT regulations and industry best practices to maintain a safe work environment.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain an advanced safety program focused on proactive risk management, employee engagement, and continuous improvement.
  • Monitor compliance with FMCSA regulations, including HOS, ELD usage, pre/post-trip inspections, and driver qualifications.
  • Partner with operational leadership to drive a culture of safety accountability and reinforce safe work practices and behaviors across all levels of the organization.
  • Oversee and enhance safety policies, procedures, and record-keeping to ensure compliance with regulatory agencies.
  • Design, lead, and manage comprehensive safety audits, ensuring timely corrective actions are implemented to mitigate risks.
  • Provide leadership in incident prevention strategies, including root cause analysis, corrective action planning, and implementation.
  • Lead and facilitate Incident Review Boards with senior management and supervisory personnel to ensure thorough investigations and resolution of near-misses, recordable incidents or vehicle incidents.
  • Conduct post-accident investigations, root cause analyses, and ensure proper documentation and reporting to agencies.
  • Develop and deliver advanced safety training programs, including leadership training on safety management and investigation techniques.
  • Audit driver logs and ensure compliance with OSHA regulations and DOT complaint handling under FMCSA standards
  • Present and review safety performance data, trends, and recommendations with senior leadership to drive strategic decision-making.
  • Act as a mentor and coach to safety personnel and operational leaders to enhance safety competencies within the organization.
  • Maintain, foster and build strong relationships with state, local and federal agencies.
  • Lead all DOT related drug testing protocols across the organization.
  • Lead proactive safety metrics in the Transportation department.
  • Audit EHS Management System (KPA) for opportunities to improve.
  • Audit our Motive system to ensure our supervisors are leveraging the system to coach associates on alerts the system sends out.

Required

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Safety, Environmental Health, or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in workplace safety, preferably a transportation related field.
  • Extensive knowledge of FMCSA and OSHA regulations, safety compliance, and fleet maintenance best practices.
  • Proven track record in developing and implementing high-impact safety policies and programs..
  • Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to influence and drive change across an organization.
  • Experience in conducting safety audits, incident investigations, and risk assessments.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while managing multiple priorities effectively.
  • Certifications such as Certified Director of Safety (CDS) or Certified Fleet Safety Professional (CFSP) preferred.
  • Must travel to our locations to perform audits and follow ups as needed.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred.
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office suite is a must.

  • The noise level in the work environment is dependent on which environment you are in
  • The hours and days of work are established by departmental needs and at the discretion of management. After-hours, weekends, and overnight travel as requested.
