POSITION SUMMARY:

This position is responsible for the overseeing the Terminal Operations personnel in day-to-day involved in cargo receiving/delivering of the operations and ensuring efficient performance and training Terminal Receiving Clerks. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. QUALIFICATIONS:

Required

  • Minimum three (3) years of previous experience in the logistics industry, to include general and bulk cargo receiving.
  • Minimum two (2) year of experience in a lead role in a related field, providing guidance and direction to receiving personnel.
  • Must have basic computer skills in Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Must have experience utilizing a handheld computer
  • Must have the ability to read, write, and speak basic English in a business environment
  • Must be able to accurately process alpha/numeric information
  • Must have the ability to oversee personnel effectively, and to handle administrative functions related to the job.
  • Must have the ability to function effectively in a fast paced, team-oriented work environment
  • Must have the ability to work independently with limited supervision and strong initiative
  • Must have the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees
  • Must have the ability to think logically, follow procedures, instructions and make sound decisions
  • Must be able to obtain Transportation Worker’s Identification Credential (TWIC) within 90 days of start date
  • Must be able to work (flexible hours) long hours including nights, overtime, weekends and holidays

Preferred

  • HAZMAT certification is a plus
  • Ability to prepare a variety of reports

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Primary

  • Supervise Receiving Clerks in day-to-day Cargo Operations and ensure standard operating procedures are followed.
  • Provide terminal / vessel presence by maintaining significant visibility in each part of the daily operation, whilst serving as primary informational and reporting contact for all members of the organization.
  • Respond to service failures and provide relevant information to all affected parties in a timely manner
  • Demonstrates cost consciousness and continuously refines and improves the way work is done.
  • Structure tasks and goals, establish efficient courses of action, set priorities and execute daily tasks while working general cargo vessels or in terminal operations with considerations to productivity and efficient utilization of equipment and labor.
  • Regularly review and update Receiving Clerks standard operating procedures according to specific needs by certain Customers and/or projects.
  • Assign Receiving Clerks personnel to needed assignments and reposition as needed to maintain efficiencies.
  • Coordinate day-to-day functions for Terminal Operations personnel assigned, involved in cargo receiving/delivering.
  • Work and maintain daily communication with Terminal Superintendent, Walking Foremen and Cargo Coordinators to properly schedule and inform Receiving Clerk Personnel of pertinent information.
  • Responsible for maintaining direct communication with customers and truck lines.
  • Monitor schedules control unnecessary overtime and labor costs.
  • Perform training for Receiving Clerk Personnel with assistance of Terminal Superintendent, Walking Foremen and Cargo Coordinators.
  • Identify isolated or trending discrepancies and determine corrective action.
  • Responsible for all physical inventory to ensure actual counts matches the system inventory.
  • Responsible for coordinating daily truck deliveries.
  • Document and record discrepancies for use when performing reviews.
  • Report discrepancies and issues to Terminal Operations Manager for resolution.
  • Prepare and create variety of reports
  • Perform all functions in accordance with operation and safety guidelines
  • Perform administrative functions related to overseeing personnel, such as documenting performance, attendance infractions, approving timecards, etc.
  • Maintain a clean work area, free of debris or safety hazards and awareness of surroundings (i.e. vehicles, people, equipment, etc.) at all times

Secondary

  • Coordinate scheduled routine inventories and ensure checks and balances with Terminal Operating systems.
  • Daily physical check of cargo to ensure that Receiving Clerks Personnel are properly identifying, marking and placing cargo.
  • Collect, review and record copies of cargo receipts from each Receiving Clerk daily to ensure accuracy and consistency.
  • Perform other related tasks as assigned

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • The employee is frequently, required to sit, grasp and exercise eye-hand coordination
  • The employee is frequently, required to grasp, exercise repetitive wrist motion, and finger movement
  • The employee is frequently, required to talk and hear
  • The employee is frequently, required to stand, walk and exercise repetitive foot motion
  • The employee is frequently, required to climb, balance, bend forward, squat, kneel, crawl, twist, pinch and reach overhead
  • The employee must lift, carry, push or pull up to 55 pounds
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

SAFETY REQUIREMENTS:

  • Report safety hazards

  • Wear appropriate PPE as instructed by immediate supervisor
  • Comply with all company safety policies, procedures, and rules
  • Refuse any unsafe task or operation
  • Participate in safety meetings and training
  • Be constantly aware of their personal safety and that of their coworkers

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED:

Receives direct supervision from the Superintendent-Terminal Ops. Will exercise supervision over Terminal Receiving Clerk personnel.

CONDITIONS:

  • Outdoors, exposure to all possible environmental factors such as extreme heat, rain, wind and high humidity during day and night shifts
  • The employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts
  • The employee is continuously exposed to dust, fumes, and airborne particles
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to high
