Paralegal – Seabrook Family Law

Position Overview:
The Paralegal is responsible for supporting attorneys in case planning, development, and management. You will handle legal research, drafting and analyzing legal documents, gathering facts, and managing client communication. In this role, you’ll also support courtroom preparation and ensure compliance with various legal protocols and guidelines.
Key Responsibilities:
- Billable Hours: Meet billable requirements accurately; submit all billable time by 9:00 AM on Mondays for the previous week.
- Client and Legal Communication: Document client and opposing counsel communications and follow up with confirmation emails.
- Court Prep & Case Management: Assist in preparing trial binders, witness lists, exhibit lists, and ensure timely document filings.
- Legal Research & Drafting: Conduct legal research and draft legal documents such as pleadings, motions, and correspondence.
- Attorney Support: Manage attorneys’ calendars, deadlines, and tasks; assist attorneys in the courtroom when necessary.
- Billing Support: Assist with client billing, including requesting trust account replenishments and maintaining knowledge of client trust balances.
- CLE Compliance: Maintain and complete all required CLE (Continuing Legal Education) credits.
- Client Interaction: Regularly communicate with clients, providing updates and gathering information.
- Compliance: Adhere to Seabrook Law Protocols (file naming, calendaring, and case review) and ensure compliance with company procedures and PSPs (Practice Standards Procedures).
- Additional Duties: Ensure compliance with Case Review Protocols and Strategy Session memo protocol; report any potential BAR complaints or malpractice claims to the owner.
Qualifications:
- Education:
- Certificate of completion of an ABA-approved paralegal program, or
- Degree with 24 law-related units from an accredited institution, or
- High school diploma/GED with a minimum of 3 years of law-related experience under a supervising attorney in California.
- Experience:
- Minimum of 1 year of experience in family law is required.
- Familiarity with courts in Santa Clara or Alameda Counties is preferred.
- Certifications: Paralegal certification preferred.
- Skills:
- High level of confidentiality and integrity.
- Excellent legal drafting, research, and communication skills (both written and oral).
- Ability to work effectively under pressure and handle multiple priorities.
- Strong organizational, time-management, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, SharePoint).
- Experience with case management software (i.e., CLIO) is a plus.
- Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills.
