Founded in 1944 by a group of halibut fishermen, Seafood Producers Cooperative (SPC) is North America’s oldest and most successful fishermen-owned cooperative. SPC produces premium quality salmon, halibut, sablefish, albacore tuna, and rockfish under the Alaska Gold and SPC brand names. These brands are recognized throughout the world for their reputation for quality. Our processing facility is located in Sitka, Alaska and corporate headquarters are in Bellingham, WA. We are looking for a Corporate Controller who is an experienced leader, detail-oriented, with the ability to mentor and develop their team and who can help “the co-op” reach our financial and operational goals.

Position Summary:

Reporting directly to the CEO, this position will be an integral member of the company’s leadership team and accountable for all day-to-day accounting and finance activities. This includes leading a team of accountants and administrative staff, ensuring financial transactions are reported in accordance with GAAP standards, maintaining an effective internal control environment, ownership of the forecasting and budgeting processes, management of cash flow and banking activities, oversight of IT support contracts and regular reporting of financials to management and board of directors.  

Responsibilities:

• Oversee all accounting and reporting activities, ensuring transactions are reported in a timely manner, with accuracy, integrity and in accordance with GAAP standards
• Maintain an effective system of internal controls over accounting transactions and procedures
• Prepare month-end financial reports and other internal management reports as required
• Conduct ad-hoc analysis as required to support company decision making
• Present financial performance updates to the board of directors on a quarterly basis
• Own the annual budget/forecast processes and conduct comparative analysis to actual performance throughout the year
• Act as an integral part of SPC’s leadership team, collaborating with others and offering appropriate input and advice on company matters
• Lead a team of three individuals, setting priorities, leveraging strengths, and pursuing continued professional development to maximize individual potential and achieve organizational goals.
• Manage cash positions in bank accounts and line of credit to maintain adequate funding for ongoing operations and investments
• Partner with external auditors to perform an efficient and effective annual audit process
• Work with insurance brokers to review and renew policies
• Oversee relationships with 3^rd party IT support providers

• Position requires occasionally travel to our location in Sitka, AK

Qualifications & Skills:

• B.S./B.A. in Accounting or related field from an accredited institution
• MBA, CMA or CPA are a huge plus, but not required
• 5 years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment
• Firm understanding of GAAP reporting requirements
• Significant experience with ERP systems, financial modeling, and advanced MS Excel proficiency
• Excellent analytical, quantitative, and social skills
• Previous experience coaching, developing, and managing a team
• Able to effectively manage and prioritize multiple projects and deliverables
• Maintains a high level of confidentiality and discretion
• Positive, relationship-oriented attitude and communication style
