Today, Seamen's Society is a comprehensive $28 million nonprofit organization that offers foster care and adoption services, mental and behavioral health care services, prevention/family stabilization services, domestic violence intervention services, a health home care management program, education financial support, a childcare center, and a youth tutoring program. Job Summary
The Benefits Coordinator oversees the administration of employee benefits and retirement plans, including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, 403(b), and other voluntary programs. Serving as the primary point of contact for benefits enrollment and employee inquiries, this role ensures accurate processing, timely communication, and excellent support related to all benefit offerings. Additionally, the Benefits Coordinator manages all leaves of absence (LOA’s), reasonable accommodations, and workers’ compensation claims. The Benefits Coordinator also acts as a liaison between the organization and external insurance and retirement plan providers, supporting smooth plan operations and issue resolution.

Responsibilities
- Administers all employee benefits programs, including medical, dental, vision, flexible spending accounts (FSA), life insurance, 403(b) retirement plan, ancillary benefits, and wellness programs
- Administers employee leaves of absence in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations ensuring compliance related to benefits, FMLA, PFL, shot-and long-term disability, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), and the Pregnant Workers Fairness Act (PWFA)
- Coordinates annual open enrollment and new hire benefit orientations; serves as the primary point of contact for employee benefit inquiries
- Audits and reconciles monthly invoices to ensure accurate and timely processing
- Monitor employee hours and classifications to ensure compliance with ACA eligibility requirements
- Maintains current and accurate employee benefit records in all applicable systems, including HRIS, enrollment portal, etc.
- Acts as the liaison between the organization and insurance and retirement plan providers to address and resolve issues
- Administers COBRA benefits in accordance with applicable laws
- Manages workers' compensation claims with third-party administrator
- Supports the HR Supervisor with benefits reporting requirements and other department related reports as needed
- Performs other duties/responsibilities as assigned within scope of position
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field required
- A minimum of three (3) years’ professional HR experience, with at least one (1) year of benefit administration experience required
- SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP professional certification highly desired
- Strong knowledge of benefits administration and leave management, including related federal, state, and local laws and regulations
- Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, including SharePoint and Teams
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to manage sensitive and confidential situations with tact, professionalism, and diplomacy
- Proven ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively in a fast-paced environment
- The position is based in Staten Island, with the ability to work at our Brooklyn location, as needed
