Job Summary

We are searching for a passionate and dedicated Director of Operations to lead the heartbeat of our organization—driving the day-to-day operations and bringing our long-term strategic initiatives to life. This is an extraordinary opportunity for a dynamic leader with a proven track record in optimizing operational systems, managing complex projects, and transforming organizational efficiency. The ideal candidate will not only be a master of logistics but a champion of our mission—helping Seattle Chamber Music Society (SCMS) continue its vital work of nurturing and elevating the chamber music artform.


As a senior leader, this role will work closely with the Executive Director. You will collaborate with every team member and board member to ensure alignment and flawless execution of business processes that keep SCMS at the forefront of the arts locally and globally.

In this role, you will be the driving force behind evaluating, enhancing, and innovating the patron experience, with a particular focus on accessibility and inclusivity, ensuring that our venues and programs are welcoming and excellent for all.

As Director of Operations, you will be instrumental in defining what matters most, creating actionable plans, and leading your team to bring those plans to life. Your work will be crucial in shaping the success of our initiatives, ensuring that our programs flourish and our vision is realized.


Reporting directly to the Executive Director, you will lead a dedicated team of permanent staff members and manage a network of part-time roles. Your leadership will help us build not just systems, but a culture of excellence, creativity, and collaboration that drives SCMS forward.


Responsibilities


Operational Management

§ Oversee daily operations to ensure efficiency, effectiveness and excellence.

§ Develop and implement operational policies, procedures and systems to maximize efficiency and uphold organizational core values.

§ Oversee and update contracts with partners, including artists and other vendors.

§ Ensure compliance with all regulatory and legal requirements.

§ Assist in developing operational budgets and abide by spending parameters.

§ Lead operations for all SCMS activities, including festivals, concerts and other programs.


Information Technology and Systems

§ Oversee IT vendor and IT policies to ensure data security and integrity.

§ Lead the implementation of new technologies, including the use of AI and other automation tools, to improve operational efficiency.

§ Serve as the primary owner of the CRM system, ensuring data hygiene, regular updates and efficient use.

§ Work with the Director of Marketing and Communications on all data collection, including evaluating what data is collected and how it is used to support decision-making processes organization-wide.


Facilities Management

§ Oversee the maintenance and operation of the organization’s facilities.

§ Manage the organization’s facilities, including maintenance and operation, security and rental agreements

§ Work with the Executive Director on facility expansion and renovation projects, and serve as project manager where applicable.

§ Manage facility rentals and coordinate with external clients.

§ Ensure that all facilities meet safety and accessibility standards, including evaluating SCMS’ progress in being a leader in accessibility.


Preferred Qualifications


§ 7 years of experience in operations management.

§ Experience with organizational goal setting.

§ Strong strategic thinker with a background in creating systems and leading teams during periods of growth and change.

§ Proven ability to lead and manage a team, with experience in coaching and developing team members.

§ A significant understanding of data collection and experience using data to make large organizational decisions.

§ Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams.

§ Experience with Customer Relationship Manager software or larger-scale customer management systems. 

§ Enthusiasm for the performing arts and a commitment to fostering a love for chamber music.
