Director, Professional Coding Education Program

Direct and manage the coding education program to support professional revenue capture across all providers i.e. CUMG faculty and Children's employed providers. Develop educational materials and standard procedures for the program. Serve as a valued resource to service line clinical and administrative leadership, physicians, non-physician providers and charge capture teams for documentation and coding of professional services. Build and maintain strong relationships across stakeholder groups including but not limited to the professional coding and charge capture, professional billing, professional compliance, revenue integrity and CUMG leadership teams. Partner with billing teams in researching professional coding-related error patterns, denial issues, and trends relating to coding accuracy. Create and disseminate educational updates and programs to address any regulatory changes impacting professional services documentation to providers and clinical leadership. Additionally identify opportunities for provider documentation efficiencies and report on findings of team. Performs highly complex and detailed coding education and reviews. Demonstrated proficient leadership and human relations skills. Lead professional coding improvement work, including development and tracking of metrics.


Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Health Information Management or related field or equivalent combination of education and extensive equivalent work experience.

  • Minimum of five years of progressively responsible professional coding experience in an acute care hospital setting or clinic setting appropriate equivalent.

  • Minimum of five (5) years management or supervisory experience.

  • Demonstrated experience leading projects, teams and process and/or system improvements.

  • Expert ability to develop educational tools for adult clinical learners

  • Expert knowledge base and experience in interpreting and applying federal/government regulations to ensure coding and documentation compliance.

  • Expert ability to conduct analysis and present actionable information to leadership and executives.

  • Experience preparing effective presentations and reports using a variety of software programs.


Required Credentials

  • Certified Coding Specialist-Physician Based (CCS-P) certification by the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) or Certified Professional Coder (CPC) by the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC).


Preferred

  • Master’s degree in a healthcare field or business or related field.

  • Experience in an Academic setting.

  • Experience in a Pediatric acute care setting.

  • Experience with Epic, SharePoint, Microsoft Teams and instructional design

  • Experience with teaching of adult learners, including creation of educational materials.

  • Ability to simultaneously handle multiple priorities and projects.

  • Experience in research of payer policy and coding guidelines.

  • Experience in clinical and/or pediatric practice operations.

Compensation Range

$126,805.00 - $190,207.00 per year

Salary Information

This compensation range was calculated based on full-time employment (2080 hours worked per calendar year). Offers are determined by multiple factors including equity, skills, experience, and expertise, and may vary within the range provided.
