Seattle Children's Hospital is excited to announce an interview day/hiring event specifically for EXPLORE Pediatrics - Student Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) Experience. The Interview Day will take place on Thursday, February 15th, 2023 from 10:15am – 2:00pm PST.
In order to be considered for this role, you need to be available to interview on the date listed above, and if you are offered a Explore Pediatrics position you would need to be available to attend Highline College CNA training May 13th -June 14th and employment with Seattle Children's by August 19th 2024 and work through February 2025. If you are not available to interview on the required Interview Day or begin working at the timeframe listed above then we encourage you to apply at a later time. This CNA application is typically posted in the first or second week of each month, and available for around two to three weeks.
Overview:
The Explore Pediatrics program is open to undergraduate students who are pursuing nursing as a career. Students from underrepresented backgrounds who are interested in gaining exposure to pediatric nursing careers are especially encouraged to apply. This program supports Seattle Children’s organizational commitment to building diverse talent pipelines and supporting career growth opportunities.
Students accepted into the role will receive funding to complete CNA training and certification over the summer and an 6-month offer of employment (contingent on successful program and state exam completion) to work as a CNA in one of our inpatient acute care units in the fall. The possibility of extending employment may be discussed with unit managers on a case by case basis.
We have partnered with Highline College to enroll students into their in-person summer CNA training program. Seattle Children’s will cover the cost of tuition, books, and supplies, only. Students will be expected to travel to Highline’s main campus and Judson Park locations in South Seattle. Students will need to complete all required application steps to enroll; please visit Highline’s program website here to review registration and application processes. Highline's program applications must be submitted by Friday, April 29th to qualify for this employment opportunity.
Students are expected to complete their 6-month employment at Seattle Children’s as a condition of receiving funding support for CNA training and certification under this program. Subsequent withdrawal or declination of employment may require repayment for costs paid by Seattle Children’s.
Students interested in exploring alternative training programs should indicate the program name and dates in their application for hiring manager review and approval – only programs with a late July end date will be considered for this opportunity.
Students may be placed into one of the following inpatient acute care units:
Cancer Care - Inpatient
Medical
Surgical
Acute Care Float Pool
CNA Orientation and Shift Schedules:
Students will receive 24 hours of virtual onboarding followed by 72 hours of orientation shifts at the hospital with experienced preceptors. Orientation will be offered on an accelerated full-time schedule of .9FTE (36 work hours per week) to help students obtain necessary skills and experience in a condensed 2-week period.
Upon completion of required onboarding and orientation, students will transition to a Per Diem which equates to 24 hours per each two-week pay period, with pay periods running from Monday through Sunday.
Students can meet their FTE by working either 8hr or 12hr shifts. Start times are 0700 for day shift, 1500 for evening shift, or 1900 for night shift. Students may choose to cluster shifts together or space them out, depending on class schedule. We will do our best to accommodate student academic schedules.

Our Hiring Process:
After careful review of all applications, a smaller group of candidates will be selected to move forward in the 30 minute interview phase of the hiring process. If you are selected to move forward, you will be contacted by email with an invitation to interview. You will have 48 hours to respond back and confirm your interview. If we haven't heard back from you within the 48 hours, we will move forward with other candidates.

The CNA role at Seattle Children's provides care to patients under the direction of a Registered Nurse or Physician by applying their knowledge and skill to provide appropriate interactions with staff, patients, and families of all ages.

This compensation range was calculated based on full-time employment (2080 hours worked per calendar year). Offers are determined by multiple factors including equity, skills, experience, and expertise, and may vary within the range provided.

Seattle Children’s offers annual incentive pay based upon performance that is commensurate with the level of the position.
