Role Description:
Seattle City Flag seeks an experienced, driven Director of Community Organizing to lead and expand our community organizing initiatives. This is a volunteer position and the candidate for this position will join the Board of Directors for Seattle City Flag. This role is central to bridging the gap between civic art and community participation; leveraging markets, fairs, and local gatherings to create immersive, inclusive experiences that grow the organization's community collaboration and builds tangible ways for Seattleites to get involved in the contemporary flag initiative. The ideal candidate will be a strategic thinker with creative flair, field organizing experience, and concrete event planning expertise, ready to engage Seattle’s diverse communities and inspire a volunteer corps dedicated to community art.
Key Responsibilities:
Event Planning & Management:
- Develop, coordinate, and execute community events at local markets, fairs, and alternative cultural spaces.
- Oversee logistics including venue selection, budgeting, volunteer coordination, and volunteer management.
Volunteer Recruitment & Engagement:
- Build and lead a dynamic volunteer corps, establishing training programs, schedules, and recognition programs.
- Empower volunteers to become ambassadors for Seattle City Flag, ensuring consistent, enthusiastic representation at all events.
Community Outreach & Partnership Building:
- Design outreach strategies to engage neighborhood groups, community organizations, local businesses, and influential civic voices.
- Cultivate relationships with new and existing partners to co-create events and initiatives that reflect Seattle’s rich cultural tapestry.
Brand Promotion & Communications:
- Collaborate with the communications team to develop messaging that emphasizes the significance of civic art and the evolving narrative of the Seattle City Flag.
- Collaborate with the digital marketing teams and leverage traditional media to promote events, share success stories, and foster continuous community dialogue.
Program Development & Evaluation:
- Innovate new initiatives that extend beyond traditional events, such as interactive workshops or pop-up exhibits that encourages broader community participation.
- Collect feedback and employ data-driven strategies to refine ongoing programs, ensuring they consistently resonate with community interests and needs.
Advocacy & Education:
- Serve as an ambassador for civic art, educating the community on the cultural and historical relevance of the Seattle City Flag.
- Advocate for inclusive practices in all community engagement efforts, ensuring accessibility and broad representation.
Qualifications:
Required Experience and Skills:
- Community Organizing & Event Planning: 5 years in organizing, volunteer management, or event coordination, preferably in non-profits or civic art initiatives.
- Volunteer Leadership: Proven ability to recruit, train, and inspire volunteer teams to act as organization ambassadors.
- Outreach & Partnerships: Experience crafting outreach strategies and building collaborations with neighborhood groups, businesses, and community organizations.
- Communications & Branding: Strong public speaking, writing, and storytelling skills; experience working with digital marketing teams to promote events and initiatives.
- Project Management: Excellent organizational skills for managing budgets, logistics, and event evaluation, with a data-driven approach.
