Seattle Central College is looking to hire a Counselor - Full-Time Tenure Track Faculty Counselor - Full-time Tenured Facultyin our Student Services Department.
Salary Range for this position is $ 85,365.00 - $ 101,099.00 annually (depending on experience).

Position Summary
Seattle Central College is seeking applicants for a full-time Tenure Track Faculty Counselor position. This provides personal, career, academic and crisis counseling, teaches and develops curriculum, facilitates workshops, consults with faculty and staff, and engages in outreach. Under the supervision of the Vice President of Student Services, counselors support a diverse student population to enter, persist and succeed in college.
Counselors collaborate within their department, with other faculty, and with staff and administration to support students in their intellectual and social-emotional development through counseling and teaching rooted in equity, diversity, and inclusion. They provide crisis intervention and referrals. They work with students to identify and develop educational and career goals informed by student strengths and local job information, while building relevant life skills and learning strategies. Counselors impact campus culture by engaging in committee work, union work, and supporting student organizations. The Full-time Faculty Counselor may be assigned to some hours at a co-location site: Health Education Center, Wood Technology Center, and Seattle Maritime Academy.
This position begins Spring quarter- (April
2025)
This position is typically scheduled to work Monday through Friday 8:00AM to 5:00PM. The schedule may vary depending on program needs. May be required to work evenings.
This position is governed by a collective bargaining agreement with representation by AFT-Seattle.

What you will be working on:
Counseling Duties:
- Provide short-term, culturally competent, individual counseling to ethically and effectively help students identify counseling concerns, establish goals and in a supportive working alliance, provide personal, educational, and career counseling interventions.
- Use culturally-responsive counseling methods to help historically underrepresented student populations become aware of and overcome obstacles they may experience in college (e.g. neurodiverse learners, students of color, first-generation college students, LGBTQIA, veterans, English language learners, etc.).
- Help students select educational programs, identify access barriers early, and collaborate with other campus offices to facilitate entry (such as: Registration, Financial Aid, Disability Services, or Child Care.).
- Provide career counseling to help students make meaningful and realistic choices to start a career path.
- Administer and interpret career interest inventories to help undecided students identify their skills and interests to choose a program of study.
- Provide brief crisis counseling to students experiencing acute/ ongoing emotional concerns, refer students to appropriate agencies, and consult with campus employees about how to manage crisis situations.
- Provide consultations for faculty and staff about student concerns that arise to create a campus that welcomes and supports diverse students.
Instructional Duties:
- Teach Human Development Course, (HDC) ranging from Orientation to College Success; Stress Management; Career Planning and Personal Development; and Math Learning Strategies.
- Foster a positive, caring, equitable learning environment where differences and pluralism are valued, and all students have opportunities to be successful learners.
- Participate in on-going curriculum development, revision, and implementation that incorporates multi-cultural perspectives.
Other Duties:
- Create and deliver outreach activities and workshops to students in skill areas such as: concentration, test-taking, managing time and stress, and choosing a program of study.
- Collaborate with campus organizations to increase student retention.
- Using technology to provide students with counseling information and referral programs.
- Actively participate in college governance and other institutional initiatives such as: College Council, CARE, Curriculum Coordinating Council (CCC ) or Guided Pathway.
- Contribute and support Counseling mission and goals.
What you bring as a candidate: (Any Equivalent Combination of Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education and Experience)
- Master's degree from an accredited college or university in Counseling, Educational Counseling, Social Work, or a related field that includes a supervised counseling practicum.
- Counseling, classroom, workshop, or other related experience.
- Eligible for state licensure as an Agency Affiliated Counselor.
- Knowledge of and experience with strategies promoting student persistence, intervention, and student follow-up.
- Successful teaching and counseling non-traditional, at-risk students with varying backgrounds, educational attainment, physical ability, and cultural backgrounds.
- Strong interpersonal communication skills.
- Successful work with individuals and groups that represent a wide range of diverse cultural, geographic, and socio-economic backgrounds.
- Experience or demonstrated commitment to teaching, mentoring and/or engaging in services for Black and Brown students.
- Demonstrated knowledge of barriers for Black and Brown students and experience in addressing disproportionate impact at an institution.
- Experience or demonstrated commitment to integrating elements of culturally relevant and inclusive pedagogy.
