What We Need
We are seeking a Director of Business Development to lead the university's bookstore operations (Falcon Store) and conference services functions. This dynamic role will focus on driving revenue growth, operational efficiency, and delivering exceptional customer experiences. What You Will Do

Bookstore Operations Management

In collaboration with the Bookstore Manager:

  • Oversee inventory, merchandising, and customer service for academic materials, university-branded items, and more.
  • Develop strategies to increase revenue generation through promotions and vendor partnerships.
  • Ensure excellent service for students, faculty, staff, and visitors.

Conference Services Development

  • Expand SPU's conference offerings by managing campus facilities for events and retreats.
  • In collaboration with the Event Coordinator, coordinate event logistics and build relationships with conference planners and external clients.
  • Align services with SPU's academic priorities and Christian mission.

Revenue Growth & Budget Oversight

  • Drive revenue growth across both bookstore and conference services.
  • Manage budgets and provide regular performance updates to leadership.

Team Leadership

  • Supervise and mentor bookstore and conference services staff.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and customer-focused service.

Christian Mission Integration

  • Align strategies with SPU's mission and enduring commitments.
  • Promote the university's identity through events and services.

Who You Are

  • Strategic Leader: You bring at least 5-7 years of experience in business development, retail management, or event planning, with 3 years in leadership roles.
  • Higher Education Enthusiast: Experience managing a university bookstore or conference services is a plus.
  • Revenue Driver: Proven ability to increase revenue, manage budgets, and enhance customer satisfaction.
  • Exceptional Communicator: Strong negotiation, communication, and organizational skills.


Job Requirements:


The Essentials

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Business, Hospitality Management, Marketing, or related field.
  • Mission-Driven: Passionate about supporting SPU's mission, with a personal commitment to Christian faith and willingness to support and live out the lifestyle standards of the Christian Community.
  • Preferred Experience: Familiarity with the Seattle area's events industry and/or higher education settings.

Position will remain open until filled.

Working Conditions

  • Full time, exempt role
  • Location: Seattle Pacific University, Seattle, WA
  • Schedule: After a period of training, the Business Development manager may be able to work a hybrid schedule (3 days in office), with occasional evening/weekend events. Must reside in the State of Washington.

Pay Range: $85,000 - $105,000 DOE

  • This is a full time position with excellent benefits. SPU pays the employee premium for medical, dental, and vision insurance. SPU makes generous contributions to an employee HSA account and a 7% contribution to a retirement account, for eligible employees, with immediate vesting in the plan. Tuition discount program (50% - 90%) available for the employee and qualified immediate family members.

Salary : $85,000 - $105,000
