Position Description:

Under the direction and supervision of the Manager, Student Resource Network, the Operations Specialist is responsible for providing a high level of program management support, event planning, management, providing supplemental career and professional development training for student employees within Learning Commons Partnership, and administrative support for the joint and individual functions of the Learning Commons Partners (LCP) and the Student Resource Network (SRN).

Essential job functions reflect and anticipate work underway on Goal Three: Enhance the Student Experience, including an on-ground and virtual Student Resource Network.

Essential Job Functions:

Learning Commons Partner Support (70%)

  • Provides equitable levels of support across the existing Learning Commons Partners, inclusive of new and emerging strategic partnerships to the Learning Commons space.
  • In alignment with University and Library Best Practices, ensures that the Partner on-ground and virtual “footprints” are welcoming, support safety and security best practices, and are aligned with established library aesthetic norms.
  • On a quarter-by-quarter basis, requests Partners’ service hours; ensures that messaging (content and presentation) and hours’ template are consistent across Partner and Lemieux Library services; ensures timely posting online and on-ground of Partner service hours.
  • Supports the Associate Dean in leading the Learning Commons Partners Steering Committee by supporting agenda development, scheduling meetings, keeping and reporting minutes, and updating web-based team resources (SharePoint).
  • Learning Commons Program Events, Activities and Outreach.
  • Assists the Learning Commons Partners with putting on successful events and activities, ensuring that events and activities are “accessible, welcoming, and inclusive”.
  • Works with Learning Commons Partners leads to identify, develop, and provide professional development opportunities for student employees.
  • Ensures that Learning Commons Partners events and presence at campus events represents the Library and Learning
  • Commons Mission, Vision and Values.
  • Student Supervision and Service Point Management
  • Supervises the work of the Student Resource Network Office Assistant, including hiring and scheduling; providing training in Learning Commons Partners services; setting workflows and identifying priority tasks; setting goals and task management feedback; setting one on one check-ins; and contributing to student evaluations.
  • Serves as the primary point of contact for the 2nd Floor Learning Commons student teams when a direct supervisor is not available.
  • Supports the purchasing of Learning Commons Partners departmental supplies including inventory and beginning-and-end-of-Quarter ordering.
  • Analytics and Assessment.
  • Coordinates and supports the further development of assessment and data collection activities between Learning
  • Commons Partners as part of yearly Goal Setting, and Annual Reporting processes.
  • Helps the Learning Commons to “tell our story,” by developing reports and critical share-outs on collected data to
  • Library and campus stakeholders.

Student Resource Network Support (30%)

  • Works closely with the Associate Dean, and the Manager, Student Resource Network, to help support the Student Resource Network in the following categories: Liaison, Outreach and Networking.
  • In collaboration with the Manager, Student Resource Network, liaises with departments within the Office of Student Success and the Office of Student Life, establishes open lines of communication and collaboration, and helps facilitate opportunities for programming, cross-training, and support.
  • Co-Coordinates Learning Commons Partners participation in events that connect to, or directly support, Student
  • Resource Network programming.
  • Reports out on Student Resource Network programming activity to the Learning Commons Partners Steering Committee.
  • Assists with a variety of Student Resource Network projects and programming for the Learning Commons Partners, as assigned.

  • Liaises with Learning Commons Partners to regularly review, update and assess information posted on the Student
  • Resource Network websites for accuracy, recommending changes and updates as needed.
  • Works with Learning Commons Partners helps to develop and maintain a working knowledge base to support on-ground student-facing service desks. This work includes assessing data, directing insights from Learning Commons
  • Partners to generate Frequently Asked Question lists, and sharing information across service providers.
  • Works closely to ensure that messaging (content and presentation) related to Learning Commons services on the
  • Student Resource Network website is consistent and models library best practices.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma and previous program or administrative support experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.
  • In support of a year-round academic community, the library is open on some national and university holidays and employees may be required to work a full or partial shift on such days.
  • As this position will staff a Tuesday through Saturday schedule, all candidates must be willing to work a full Saturday shift.


Preferred Qualifications:


  • The ideal candidate will possess the ability to recognize opportunities and design processes to increase administrative effectiveness and service delivery efficiencies.
  • Previous experience working in an academic environment is preferred.
  • Previous experience supervising students.

Compensation at a Glance:

Salary Range: $50,100 - $56,100

Seattle University has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information, and not based on a candidate’s gender or any other protected status.
