Purpose: The Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for designing and optimizing manufacturing processes in an injection molding environment and ongoing contract manufacturing. This engineer focuses on troubleshooting, improving processes, and ensuring projects meet established standards while enhancing overall efficiency.
Primary Responsibilities:
Assist with process design, equipment procurement, and installation projects. Lead engineering initiatives aimed at NPI (New Product Introduction), cost reduction, cycle time reduction, and improvements in quality and safety.
Develop manufacturing processes by analyzing product requirements, researching, designing, modifying, and testing manufacturing methods and equipment, and working closely with equipment vendors.
Participate in OQ (Operational Qualification) assembly builds to understand assembly processes and prepare for clean PQ (Performance Qualification) runs.
Design fixtures and automation systems while considering project constraints related to cost and time. Provide alternatives and present return-on-investment documentation.
Improve manufacturing efficiency by optimizing workflows, space requirements, and equipment layout.
Communicate project timelines, design-for-manufacturability (DFMA) issues, and technical details to internal teams and external customers throughout product development and production.
Evaluate manufacturing processes by conducting research and applying knowledge of product design, fabrication, assembly, tooling, and materials. Consult with equipment vendors and solicit feedback from operators.
Develop and implement qualification plans to ensure consistent quality throughout the project lifecycle, with support from the supervisor.
Ensure product and process quality by designing and conducting testing, establishing standards, and confirming manufacturing processes.
Guide and train technicians to complete design and development projects.
Stay updated on industry trends and advancements by attending workshops, reviewing publications, and researching new products.
Qualifications and Skills:
Minimum of a 2-year degree in a manufacturing-related field, or equivalent experience
Comprehensive knowledge of process development and automation
Strong project management and communication skills
Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs and basic CAD knowledge; ability to understand specialized programs used with custom equipment
Ability to collaborate with all levels of the organization, interpret technical data, and analyze data to identify solutions and make recommendations
Experience in ISO 13485, GMP, and/or FDA registered manufacturing facility preferred
Experience with secondary operations such as sonic welding, heat staking, pick and place, pad printing, light assembly, and automation preferred
Must be able to lift at least 30 pounds unaided
Valid identification and the ability to legally work in the United States
Salary : $85,000 - $100,000
