What are the responsibilities and job description for the Animal Ambassadors (Part Time) position at SeaWorld Orlando?

What you get to do:
As an Animal Care Specialist, you’ll:
  • Provide exceptional guest service, participate in educational presentations and answer guest questions
  • Prepare daily food rations for animal areas
  • Perform daily feeding of the animal collection and administration of daily animal medication and treatments
  • Maintain accurate feeding and observational records
  • Perform daily observations of animal exhibits and associated off exhibit areas
  • Maintain safe and sanitary living conditions for the animal collection
  • Assist in large scale animal transports
  • Perform any other duties as requested by the supervisory staff
  • This position facilitates park events, outreach programs and travel for presentations

What it takes to succeed:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • At least 18 years old
  • Valid state driver’s license and ability to obtain a company driver’s license
  • At least 2 years zoological experience
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Deliver education narrations
  • Must be able to facilitate presentations for public guests and private groups, to include outreach events

Desired Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Biology or a related field preferred
  • 2 years guest service experience preferred

What else is important:

  • Able to swim and work in/around water
  • Able to stand for long periods of time
  • Able to lift 50 pounds
  • Able to push/pull 100 pounds
  • Able to adapt to the constantly changing work environments such as new animal procedures and treatments
  • Comfortable with exposure to noise and vibrations
  • Able to train on and properly use protective gear
  • Available to work varying shifts or hours based on park hours; i.e. be able to work opening and closing shifts
  • Position engages in extensive walking and standing throughout entire work shift and climb/ascend heights, if needed.
  • Perform the following physical activities: kneeling, squatting, bend floor-to waist/waist-to-overhead, reach overhead, simple grasp and fine hand manipulation tasks (use of tools/keyboard/writing).
  • Must be able to work indoors and outdoors, in varying weather, to include extreme heat. Position may be exposed to fumes, dust, odors and cold/heat temperature extremes.
  • Perform cleaning duties, including use of cleaning chemicals.
  • Must be flexible in work locations as placement will depend on business needs and career development opportunities.

Position level and Compensation rate will be contingent on professional zoological animal care experience at an AZA or equivalent facility. Level is determined through review and assessment of applicable experience by Zoo leadership. Experience required for each level is detailed below:
  • Associate: Entry level position
  • Specialist: Minimum of 12 months (2,080 hours) professional zoological experience
  • Senior: Minimum of 2.5 years (5,200 hours) professional zoological experience
  • Senior 1: Minimum of 5 years (10,400 hours) professional zoological experience

As a 365 day/year operation, candidates are expected to provide flexible availability to support year-round operating needs. This may include, but is not limited to, working opening, mid-day and closing shifts during peak and non-peak seasons, as well as weekends and holidays.
