What are the responsibilities and job description for the Rides Controls Technician position at SeaWorld Orlando?
As a Rides Control Technician, you will be responsible for the general maintenance, safety, inspections, troubleshooting and upgrading of all electrical/electronic control systems on the attractions with the objective of improving ride operational time. Enthusiastically represents SeaWorld by displaying a positive attitude, high level of energy and commitment to quality throughout all aspects of the job.
You will also:
- Perform maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of all ride-related electrical/electronic systems used for attraction ride control. These systems include: power distribution up to 600 volts, AC/DC motors, relay logic, hydraulic and pneumatic control circuits, variable speed motor controllers, programmable logic controllers, and closed loop servo systems.
- Diagnose electrical problems in hard wired and software circuits.
- Maintain proficiency in all manufacturing manuals related to each individual ride.
- Perform annual PLC program verification on all rides.
- Monitor PLC code and determine best course for resolving reoccurring issues.
- Complete all green tagging procedures on rides while upholding to department safety standards, including test
riding and inspections.
- Complete all required documentation pertaining to each ride.
- Have a working knowledge and understanding of basic pneumatic and hydraulic systems.
- Perform daily inspections on rides, attractions, elevators and moving walkways.
- Read and troubleshoot logic in PLC’s.
- Program VFD’s and DC controllers.
- Communicate any ride related questions/concerns to leadership.
- Share knowledge and expertise with others.
- Ensure excellent customer service by anticipating and responding to customer requirements, expectations, and
needs.
- Maintain a safe work environment, follows all safety policies and procedures, including lock out tag out, personal protective equipment, ride safety requirements and fall protection.

What it takes to succeed:
- 2 year degree in Electrical Engineering Technology or Electrical Engineering, or equivalent required
- At least 5 years related experience in an industrial environment and/or combination of education and experience.
- Have electronic/electrical knowledge and troubleshooting skills.
- Understand operation of amusement rides from simple start stop circuits to PLC controllers.
- Understand and troubleshoot variable speed AC and DC drives.
- Previous experience with RSLogix 5000 , Step 7, TwinCat and Profibus, Preferred
- Be at least 18 years of age.
- Possession of a valid Florida driver's license; visiting students and military must have valid driver's license from state of residency and able to provide a copy of the DMV report and must be able to complete the Company Vehicle Driver Training class and obtain a SWF driver’s license.
- Positively interact with guests and co-workers of all ages, different ethnic/cultural backgrounds and/or language, and individuals with special needs.
- Able to pass a maintenance certification exam on all rides that are maintained; must be able to pass an annual quality assurance examination or audit.
- Strong written/verbal communication skills.
- Basic mathematical skills.
- Proficiency in reading and writing in English.
- Regularly stand, sit, walk, use hands to finger, handle, feel, see, talk, hear, taste smell, and reach with hands and arms.
- Able to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crawl, and crouch.
- Able to climb and work off of ladders.
- Comfortable working at heights of up to 300ft.
- Have close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
- Able to work outdoors under all weather conditions.
- Able to regularly lift or move up to 50 pounds.
- Able to work weekends, holidays, early mornings and late evenings.
