MISSION FOCUS: Support the mission of Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest NC by providing oversight and management of the Food Bank’s total warehouse operations, including the receiving and distribution systems, food storage and security, delivery and transportation, inventory control, food safety and physical plant maintenance.
BASIC FUNCTION: Provide leadership, direction and motivation to the Operations team whose responsibilities encompass warehouse operations, receiving, distribution, safe food handling, inventory control and logistics.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Oversee and direct the activities within the Operations department to ensure effective and efficient operations, including receiving, distribution, food storage and security, logistics, inventory control, food safety and physical plant maintenance.
· Ensure safeguarding, proper warehousing, segregation, marking and inventory accuracy of all product. Maintain first in-first out system of inventory to ensure quality control.
· Collaborate with Inventory Control Manager to conduct inventory and cycle counts as determined by schedule and priority. Assist with inventory reconciliation and provide oversight on Inventory Control.
· Maintain accurate and complete warehouse records including cleaning, safety and sanitation, temperature and pest control schedules and logs and all other record keeping necessary to maintain the highest quality facilities.
· Maintain all warehouse equipment; coordinate any repairs/maintenance on equipment.
· Keep informed about all Second Harvest Food Bank of NW NC, State and Federal government contracts, disaster programs, etc.
· Hire, supervise and evaluate staff for the positions being supervised. Delegate duties and responsibilities as necessary. Assist with training and supervising volunteers.
· Train and support team to uphold the highest standards in food safety, cleanliness, and organization with the Facilities Supervisor.
· Make recommendations to the VP of Operations for promotions, terminations and necessary disciplinary actions of warehouse personnel.
· Ensure warehouse personnel receive adequate training in food handling and inspection, storage and distribution procedures, equipment operations and safety and sanitation requirements.
· Oversee payroll and timecard verification, including overtime approval and management.
· Participate in budget planning, management of specific budget items, and reporting of department activities. Obtain approval for expenditures for purchases, maintenance of vehicles and contracts in accordance with established practices. Identify ways of reducing expenses and improving efficiencies.
· Manage and direct all food safety and financial audit prep and execution.
· Comply with established workplace and food safety rules and practices. Function as participating member of the Safety Committee and the Food Safety Committee.
· Develop and maintain relationships related to the warehouse including Food Bank departments, partner agencies, food donors and the community.
· Support Vice President of Operations with administrative support as needed.
· Other duties as assigned.
FOOD HANDLING OPERATIONS
· Responsible for proper product receipt, storage, inspection and distribution processes in accordance with USDA, IRS, Feeding America and donor regulations.
· Oversee proper inventory control of all products to ensure timely distribution within policy guidelines and/or disposal if needed.
· Make decisions, in conjunction with the VP of Operations when appropriate, regarding acceptance of donations and allocations to other Food Banks.
· Ensure the proper handling of available product in salvaged food processing operation, including maintenance of processing area and procedures and enforcement of salvage procedures.
· Ensure the organization is AIB audit ready at all times, including operational procedures, program documentation and condition of facility.
· Ensure that all owned and leased Food Bank equipment, including vehicles, is safe for food handling, including repairs and inspections as needed.
· Ensure diverse and abundant inventory levels by developing relationships with retailers, manufacturers, food drive sponsors, reclamation centers and other Food Banks.
· Comply with all hazardous material handling and storage and other regulatory requirements.
FACILITY OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE
· Ensure building and equipment are in proper repair and that security and safety provisions are in order.
· Ensure adequate sanitation and pest control procedures are performed regularly and are effective.
· Coordinate building maintenance needs with the VP of Operations.
· Assist with planning and implementing adjustments to facilities as necessary to ensure adequate warehousing and product handling procedures.
· Ensure the facility meets warehousing standards set by the food industry, USDA, OSHA and Feeding America.
· Participate in the development and necessary revisions of warehouse operations procedures and manuals.
GENERAL ADMINISTRATIVE REQUIREMENTS
· Assist with establishing employee workplans and goals, job descriptions, performance reviews and evaluations, etc. as appropriate. Maintain accurate and timely personnel reports.
· Provide accurate and timely reports as requested.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIREMENTS
· Serv-Safe certification or ability to obtain Serv-Safe certification within one year of employment.
· Establish and maintain a positive, productive working environment for assigned employees.

· Planning or related professional experience.

· Knowledge of warehousing for a food service operation.
· Good analytical and problem-solving skills.
· High degree of attention to detail in all job functions.
· Excellent communication skills, both verbally and in writing.
· Computer literate and the ability to learn modern technology.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Able to lift up to sixty pounds occasionally without assistance.
- Able to operate warehouse equipment including pallet jacks, forklifts, etc.
- Basic math skills required.
- Able to read scale weights and record them correctly.
- Able to walk, sit, stoop, squat, etc. frequently.
- Able to stand for extended periods of time occasionally.
- Able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Visual acuity to operate computer.
- Able to work with a diverse group of people.
- Able to maintain harmonious relationships with Partner Agencies and volunteers.
