POSITION SUMMARY

Second Harvest Food Bank’s (SHFB) Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP) Manager is responsible for the relationship development, coordination, implementation, and compliance of Second Harvest’s Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP), also known as the senior commodity box program. A USDA program administered by the Louisiana Department of Health to serve low-income seniors, CSFP is operated by Second Harvest in partnership with Feeding Louisiana and hundreds of partners across the region. The CSFP Manager is a key position to helping Second Harvest address food insecurity among seniors and provide them with the food they need to be healthy, happy, and thriving.

ACCOUNTABILITIES

Based in the Greater New Orleans area and supervising a team of staff and contractors, the CSFP Manager will be integral to the Impact team and the implementation of our Commodity Supplemental Food Program across the eastern part of our service area. Specifically, they will:

  • Maintain knowledge of current state and federal CSFP policies and procedures. Stay abreast of changes.
  • Work with CSFP Coordinators and contractors to build, cultivate, and maintain partnerships with current and potential community organizations, including local Councils on Aging, senior living facilities, partner food pantries, etc., to distribute monthly CSFP boxes to seniors across our communities. Hold an equity lens, ensuring partners expand across our service area and reach underserved areas and pockets of high need.
  • Create and coordinate with the larger Impact Team to execute an outreach strategy to increase awareness about CSFP, eligibility requirements, access to services, etc. Conduct outreach via handouts or events.
  • Work with Operations Team to manage partner delivery schedules, address issues and challenges, assist with orders and returns, etc.
  • Work with team to conduct Second Harvest-hosted CSFP distributions at various sites throughout the community, including setup, intake, traffic/line control, box loading, etc.
  • Coordinate with Volunteer Services Teams to recruit volunteers to assist with CSFP distributions, as needed.
  • Coordinate with CSFP team to ensure all seniors enrolled in the program are active in the CSFP digital client intake system, Pantry Soft, and all information is accurate and up-to-date, including contact information, visit history, site assignments, etc.
  • Reconcile boxes delivered by Second Harvest versus boxes distributed by partners each month, ensuring the information housed in both Second Harvest’s inventory control system and Pantry Soft is accurate.
  • Assist with maintaining client waitlist. Work with partners to increase the number of seniors on the waitlist.
  • Contribute to achieving 95-100% caseload utilization month-over-month by actively rotating clients from the waitlist to enrollment in the program.
  • Proactively address barriers that may preclude a senior from participating in the program.
  • Coordinate with Community Nutrition Team to provide nutrition education for seniors in each box distributed, as well as Neighbor Services Team to provide outreach materials for SNAP application assistance and referrals to other life-saving services.
  • Provide necessary training to all CSFP partners on an annual/as-needed basis, including Pantry Soft digital client intake system, civil rights, food safety, etc. Keep a record of all partners that have completed the required trainings.
  • Ensure program compliance through regular monitoring site visits and follow up as needed.
  • Prepare and complete monthly reports and documentation as required, including number of seniors served, detailed outreach and nutrition education activities, etc.

  • Stand ready to assist with Disaster Response as assigned in the event of a disaster.

  • Performs other duties as assigned to meet company needs.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Based at Second Harvest’s facility in New Orleans, this position requires both in-office work, as well as work in the field. Willingness to drive throughout the 11-parish region is required.
  • The position sometimes requires hours outside of the traditional workday, including evenings and weekends.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and related experience.

  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills to establish and maintain effective partnerships with a diverse variety of both external and internal stakeholders.
  • Strong ethical character capable of exercising good judgment and discretion in handling confidential information.
  • Ability to organize work, to set priorities, to exercise independent judgment, and to demonstrate flexibility in balancing the needs of various activities. Ability to juggle and adapt to multiple projects with attention to detail and accuracy, handle interruptions, and maintain focus on tasks.
  • Experience in training and supervision of staff and volunteers.
  • Strong written, oral and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Windows and Office environment (Word, Excel, Access, Outlook) and standard office equipment.
  • Reliable transportation and valid DL and insurance.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s degree from a college or university in Social Work or a related field.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: Up to $60,000.00 per year
