Nursery Care Associate, 2 Weekends per Month
You will work closely with a small, dedicated team to assist with the daily activities of the nursery and greenhouse. Customer service and plant care are at the forefront of this position. Your activities will reflect our commitment to create a pleasant and memorable experience for our guests. Tasks vary daily but will be centered on the maintenance, care, and sale of plants at the garden center. A Snapshot of the Work You’ll Do
· Provide excellent customer service with a friendly, enthusiastic, energetic attitude
· Assist with display, watering, and maintenance of plants
- Physical outdoor labor and plant care
· Assist customers with purchases and plant care questions
A Few More Details
· Operate a cash register and assist with purchases
· Answer the phone and communicate with customers via email
· Help maintain cleanliness and order of the garden center
- Prioritize tasks assigned and improve workflow
- Employ strong work ethic, sense of urgency while working, pride for the job, reliability
· Assist with occasional external projects or classes
- Use professional attitude towards fellow employees, supervisor, and clients
- Load and unload materials and supplies
- Rake, sweep, dig, shovel, prune, water
- Use hand tools (wheelbarrow, shovel, rake, broom, etc.)
Work Environment and Compensation
- Work 2 weekends per month- late March through early December

Qualifications
- Strong “people” skills, a desire to help and engage with customers
- An interest in gardening and sharing information about plants, willingness to learn and develop skills
- Solid work ethic, positive attitude, happy personality
- Honesty and reliability
- Comfortable with physically demanding and repetitive tasks throughout the workday, such as moving plants, watering, weeding beds and spreading mulch
- Lifting, bending, squatting, kneeling, walking and carrying multiple weighted items
- Able to work in all outdoor conditions: heat, cold, humidity, rain, dust, mud, etc.
- Valid driver’s license or reliable transportation
Not required, but these are a serious PLUS!
- Background or interest in horticulture
- Landscape installation, construction, farm, or relevant experience
- Ability to lift 50 pounds
- Familiarity in using hand tools related to the trade: wheelbarrows, pruners, loppers, saws, weeders, shovels, forks, rakes, hoes, wagons, buckets, carts, etc.
- Ability to operate equipment such as truck and trailer, skid steer, gator
- Familiarity and comfort with a computer or POS system
