What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director of Communications position at Second Presbyterian Church?
Position Summary:
The Director of Communications helps Second Presbyterian Church to build relationships with, and amplify its message to, the larger Kansas City community for the purpose of furthering Second’s mission and vision. In support of this vision, this individual is responsible for keeping Second’s congregation informed about both internal and external opportunities for members to engage in nurturing relationships, spiritual growth, affirming and supporting diversity, extending invitations and engaging with the community.
Major Responsibilities:
The Director of Communications plays a dual role in supporting internal messaging and external marketing. Such tasks include:
1. Updating and printing weekly bulletins
2. Updating and distributing weekly Second Helpings newsletter
3. Updating and distributing Sunday Morning email
4. Maintaining worship, announcements, and Brightsign (West entry) slides
5. Maintain website (secondpres.org)
6. Maintaining social media accounts (Facebook and Instagram)
7. Editing and posting weekly sermon videos and podcasts
8. Creating and assisting with graphics, mailers, brochures, and swag as needed
9. Photography and video editing, as possible/ needed
Professional Skills Desired:
Working knowledge of and comfort with relevant technologies, including InDesign, Canva, video editing and photography.
Personal Qualities Desired:
1. Ability to multi-task and manage multiple projects at once.
2. Relational ability to listen, communicate and engage well with staff and members of the church.
- Meet with pastors, the communication committee, and other staff as needed related to the communications role.
4. Appreciation for and commitment to the Christian mission of Second Presbyterian.

Schedule:
- Eight-hour shift, Monday to Friday. Remote work is optional, 1-2 days per week.
- Attend Second Staff Meetings on Tuesday mornings.
Salary & Benefits:
Pay: $52,000- $58,000 per year, depending on experience
