What are the responsibilities and job description for the Training Captain position at Security Fire Protection District?
General Description and Essential Duties:
- Plans, organizes, and directs the department training activities for department personnel; Communicates with others to maximize the effectiveness and efficiency of interdepartmental operations and training opportunities.
- This is an “at will” position that serves as a direct report to the deputy fire chief.
- Develops and coordinates an annual training plan for department personnel on three shifts, ensuring consistency of operations.
- Performs training and evaluation of suppression personnel and performs research and implements programs to ensure the training Division operates in an efficient, effective, and safe manner.
- Remains current on the principles, practices, and new developments in the field of fire suppression, rescue, emergency medical, and hazardous materials; incorporates new developments as appropriate; creates and /or updates department training materials according to best practices.
- Ensure accountability for department personnel certifications and renewals.
- Responds when needed to emergency incidents for assignment to command staff roles such as incident commander, safety officer, division or group supervisor, and aid etc.

Minimum Qualifications:
- CO, IFSAC, or Pro-Board Fire Firefighter II.
- Able to obtain with 12 months and maintain, CO, IFSAC, or Pro-Board Fire Officer I, Fire Instructor I (preferred).
- CO, IFSAC, or Pro-Board Fire Officer II and Fire Instructor II to advance in the position (preferred).
- CO or National Registry EMT-IV, National Incident Management System (NIMS) 100, 200, 700, 800, and NWCG Red Card.
- Five (5) years of career (paid) experience in a fire department.
- Current Colorado driver’s license and copy of motor vehicle record.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Considerable knowledge of modern fire suppression, prevention, and emergency medical services principles, procedures, techniques, and equipment.
- Practical knowledge of modern training and educational instruction techniques.
- Sound project management skills.
- Ability to communicate and work closely fellow officers, firefighters, local response partners, and the public.
- Ability to exercise sound judgement in evaluating situations and in making decisions.
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
