Title: Teaching Assistant
Reports to: Classroom Teacher and Principal
Requirements:
High School Diploma, Associates Degree, or Bachelor Degree
Preferences:
The candidate has worked with children with special needs, especially those on the Autism
spectrum or those with intellectual or developmental disabilities.
Scope of Duties:
- Be responsible to and function under the direction of the Classroom Teacher.
- Assist the Teacher in the delivery of instruction in, and the implementation of, individualized education program (IEP) goals and objectives.
- Assist the Teacher in facilitating students' independence, happiness, social and emotional well being, awareness, language and pragmatics, and appropriate behavior.
- Assist the Teacher in ensuring the safety of students and their inclusion across all settings and environments, including the local community.
- Assist the Teacher in the collection of data and feedback to alter methods as needed.
- Participate in all relevant trainings and professional development as required by the program.
- Carry out any other assigned duties, for example: supervision of student(s) at breakfast, lunch, or in outdoor spaces; self-care and personal care support, such as toileting; classroom organization tasks; and any other duties as assigned by the Classroom Teacher, Principal, or Executive Director.
The candidate must:
- Be able to lift, pull, or push approximately forty (40) pounds, and have the ability to move
- Be willing to work with verbally and/or physically aggressive students, and engage in crisis and behavior deescalation and management training (SafetyCare).
- Pass both SAFIS fingerprinting and CORI screenings in order to be employed.
