What are the responsibilities and job description for the Transition Teacher - SEEM Prep position at SEEM Prep?
Job Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred.
- Licensed by the Massachusetts Department of Education (DESE) in Moderate Disabilities (Grades 5-12) or Severe Disabilities (All Levels) preferred.
- At least one year of classroom teaching experience, and/or one year of the provision of transition-related services, experiences, or instruction preferred.
- Sheltered English Immersion (SEI) Endorsement preferred.
Candidate Responsibilities - The candidate must:
- Strive to create and maintain a positive therapeutic learning environment, where students feel safe, comfortable, and able to learn. This includes the implementation of positive behavior interventions and supports (PBIS), including tiered levels of evidence-based practices that ensure students can achieve social, emotional, behavioral, and transition (adult service-related) benchmarks.
- Have a general knowledge of student disability profiles within the social, emotional, behavioral, developmental, and/or intellectual categories.
- Have a general knowledge of implementing ABA-based methodologies for intervention and support.
- Recommend and implement appropriate accommodations and modifications that are directed through the Individualized Education Program (IEP) and support the diverse learning needs of students.
- Use a variety of instructional formats (i.e. 1:1 instruction, small groups, whole classroom, etc) and present varied lessons, activities, and topics around transition domains.
- Modify content that is aligned to the Massachusetts Frameworks and Common Core Standards as well as the needs of students based on their IEPs
- Plan lessons focused on the transition-related needs of students, including: post-secondary education and training; employment; independent living; and self-determination.
- Engage in a community-based instruction (CBI) model, where the educator, classroom staff and students frequently leave the school to generalize adult skills in non-school community settings, and that are anchored through the students' IEP goals and objectives.
- Collect quantitative and qualitative feedback, utilize informal and formal assessments, and compile feedback to monitor student progress and learning.
- Delegate and supervise classroom responsibilities and duties to instructional support staff, and provide guidance to those staff through classroom expectations and routine feedback.
- Provide consistent communication and practice the team approach in order to work with SEEM Prep staff, parents and guardians, school district administrators, and related support staff.
- Draft and develop IEPs, administer three-year assessments, and participate in team meetings that are focused on students' transitions to their adult life.
- Collect data and document notes and events in order to inform team members of student progress.
- Regularly consult with school specialist staff including the transition coordinator, counselors, BCBAs, and therapists to monitor and modify student plans.
- Be open to continually improving one's own practices through professional development, self-planned training, learning opportunities, reflection, and/or participation in school-based and organizational communities of practice.
- Carry out any other assigned duties, for example: the supervision of students in varied settings across the day, including the outside community; the support of student self-care skills such as hygiene, personal care, and toileting; the organization of additional tasks; and any other duties as assigned by the Principal or Executive Director.

Salary : $54,695 - $94,422
