Job Requirements :

  • Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred.
  • Licensed by Massachusetts Department of Education (DESE) in Moderate Disabilities (5-12) or Severe Disabilities (All Levels) preferred.
  • Sheltered English Immersion (SEI) Endorsement preferred.
  • At least one year of classroom teaching experience preferred.

Candidate Responsibilities - The candidate must :

  • Strive to create and maintain a positive therapeutic learning environment, where students feel safe, comfortable, and able to learn. This includes implementation of Positive Behavior Interventions & Supports (PBIS) including tiered levels of evidence-based strategies and practices that ensure students can successfully achieve social, behavioral, and academic benchmarks.
  • Have a general knowledge of student disability profiles related to the social, emotional, behavioral, developmental, and / or intellectual domains, as well as ABA-based methodologies for interventions and supports.
  • Be comfortable using a variety of instructional formats (i.e. 1 : 1 delivery, dyads, small groups, whole classroom, etc) that are driven by a student's Individualized Education Program (IEP), and are used to present lessons, activities, and units that vary daily, weekly, and / or monthly.
  • Be comfortable providing formative and summative feedback as well as employing quantitative and qualitative measures to monitor student learning.
  • Modify content that is aligned to the Massachusetts Frameworks and Common Core Standards, as well as the needs of individual students based on their IEPs. Curricular instructional domains are consistent to the Massachusetts High School (9-12) Scope, such as English Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies, as well as Life / Pre-Vocational Skills and Activities of Daily Living.
  • Implement and recommend appropriate accommodations and modifications that are directed through the IEP to support the diverse learning needs of students.
  • Document and assemble MCAS Alternative Assessment Portfolios, or help students through MCAS On-Demand (computer-based) Assessments with accommodations, at routine times in the school year.
  • Administer informal and formal assessments to monitor student achievement, which includes mandated three-year reevaluations where students are deemed re-eligible for specialized instruction, support, and services.
  • Delegate and supervise classroom responsibilities and duties to instructional / teaching aides, and provide feedback and guidance to those aides when necessary, through routine classroom management and consultations with a variety of school staff.
  • Practice the team approach as well as provide consistent communication in order to work with outside parents and guardians, outside school district administrators, and related support staff to best serve each student.
  • Participate in annual IEP meetings as well as conduct academic / educational assessments relative to their students' three year reevaluation meetings.
  • Routinely document notes and events and collect varied in order to inform team members of student progress both formally (i.e. trimester progress notes, annual IEP, etc) and informally (i.e. parent-communication log, email, etc) means.
  • Be open to continually improving their own practices through professional development, selfplanned training and learning opportunities, reflection, consultations, and / or participation in school-based or organizational communities of practice.
  • Carry out any other assigned duties, for example : the supervision of student(s) at breakfast, lunch, in outdoor and / or community spaces, and at routine times during the day; support students' self-care, hygiene, and personal care, such as in-person support with toileting; organizational tasks; and any other duties as assigned by the Principal or Executive Director.
  • Employment contingent upon a suitable fingerprint screening and CORI check.
