JOB SUMMARY
We are seeking a highly motivated and talented entry-level Economic Development Specialist to join our team and play a pivotal role in supporting various economic development projects and initiatives. This role involves collaborating closely with local government agencies, private sector entities, and community stakeholders to implement initiatives aimed at advancing economic growth, improving competitiveness, and fostering a conducive business environment. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Market Research and Analysis - Assist with research and data analysis to support the development of economic development strategies, sector-specific studies, and investment attraction plans. Utilize statistical tools, GIS technology, and real estate models to assess feasibility and financial viability of proposed projects.
- Data Management and Reporting - Maintain accurate records of economic development and real estate development activities, financial transactions, and project progress. Evaluate strategy effectiveness, track key performance indicators (KPIs), and create routine progress reports and presentations for internal and external stakeholders, providing them with comprehensive updates on project development and results.
- Business Attraction and Retention - Utilize labor studies to support efforts to identify, target and attract new businesses for development and redevelopment projects, while working with existing businesses to support expansion and retention.
- Commercial Real Estate and Development - Work closely with developers, property owners, and investors to drive real estate projects that support and enhance economic growth goals.
- Stakeholder Engagement - Support economic development and real estate projects by actively engaging with key stakeholders, including city officials, business leaders, community groups, residents, and industry representatives. Maintain open communication throughout the project’s lifecycle to build strong partnerships and ensure successful outcomes.
- Project Management - Manage economic development projects, including planning, implementation, and performance tracking to ensure successful outcomes aligned with strategic goals.
- Grant Writing - Collaborate with the Economic Development team to develop grant proposals that align with the city’s economic development goals. Research and identify relevant grant opportunities from government agencies, foundations and other funding sources to support economic development projects and programs.
Perform other related duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor's degree in Economics, Business Administration, Public Administration, Urban Planning or a related field
- Experience in economic development, real estate development, community development, or a related field
Or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
- Knowledgeable in economic development principles, real estate market dynamics, policies, and industry best practices.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex economic data and trends in the real estate market.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills to convey ideas clearly and concisely.
- Demonstrated experience in building and maintaining strategic partnerships with a variety of stakeholders
- Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented, multicultural environment.
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Eagerness to learn, adapt, and take on new challenges in the field of economic development.
- Experience in grant writing is a plus
- Knowledge and proficiency in Microsoft Professional Software, including, but not limited to, Word, Excel, PowerPoint
- Knowledge of GIS - Geographic Information System is a plus
