Seifert Engineering is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Controls Engineer to oversee all aspects of Controls and Automation Systems design. The ideal candidate will have experience in developing and implementing controls systems for hydraulics, pneumatics, mechanical, robotic, and safety systems. This role includes project management of large capital projects, providing support for existing control systems, and writing both internal and external engineering specifications. The Controls Engineer will also provide guidance to technicians, conduct training, and ensure safety protocols are followed. The successful candidate will prioritize safety and take proactive measures to mitigate risks associated with control systems.
Key Responsibilities:
- System Design & Support: Install, troubleshoot, and provide technical support for Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) and Human-Machine Interface (HMI)-based hardware and software systems.
- Control Systems Development: Design and develop electrical control systems for various equipment and machinery, including defining control hardware requirements and collaborating with vendors to create cost-effective designs.
- Customer Interaction & Feedback: Gather and communicate feedback to the Controls & Electrical group about customer needs, product improvements, and new opportunities.
- Project Management: Take ownership of all aspects of field engineering, field services, commissioning, system startup, and project handover to customers, ensuring smooth implementation of controls systems.
- Collaboration & Design Support: Assist and collaborate with other engineers in the design of processes, equipment, and control systems using standard engineering principles and techniques.
- Customer Negotiations: Address and negotiate technical issues of significant impact with customers, ensuring alignment with current and future business objectives.
- System Schematics & Documentation: Create schematics, panel layouts, and I/O lists, and generate electrical Bill of Materials (BOM) for quoting purposes.
- Safety & Compliance: Evaluate safety control systems to ensure compliance with safety standards and implement necessary countermeasures to address risks.
- Troubleshooting & Maintenance: Troubleshoot PLC, robotic, and other automation systems, and reprogram equipment as needed for engineering changes and process improvements.
- Training & Guidance: Provide guidance and training to technicians and team members to ensure best practices and system proficiency.
Qualifications:
- Educational Background: Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience: A minimum of 2 years of experience in controls engineering, including hands-on experience with PLCs and HMIs.
- Technical Knowledge: Experience with NEC, NFPA 70E standards, and the ability to read and interpret complex electrical schematics. Proficiency in AutoCAD Electrical is preferred.
- PLC & HMI Experience: Proficiency with Allen Bradley PLCs and HMIs, with a demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and support production issues.
- Safety Standards: Knowledge of Arc Flash regulations and standards, with a track record of maintaining equipment controls and electrical systems that support manufacturing.
- Problem-Solving: Proven success in diagnosing and resolving issues related to electrical systems and automation technologies.
- Self-Motivation & Independence: Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and manage multiple tasks effectively.
- Travel Requirements: Willingness and flexibility to travel as needed to support fieldwork and customer needs.
