Overview

The Director, Competitive Intelligence will be responsible for leading market research efforts to identify CL Customer product needs, preferences, and industry trends as inputs into the commercial lines product strategies. Leading a team that assesses the competitor landscape, including insurance offerings, distribution strategies, technology offerings, value-added services, and marketing strategies as part of the product discovery process. This includes analyzing macro level agency and customer behavior data and deriving insights to inform new and existing product development decisions, providing research-based recommendations for product enhancements, gaps and new feature development. Develop and maintain the tools and processes needed to communicate actionable findings to the standard and non-standard commercial organizations, including regular quarterly and ad-hoc research analysis reports. Collaboration with the product management team, product councils and other key stakeholders is a critical input to aligning findings with the product roadmap. Responsibilities also include collaboration with other research functions in the organization as well as staying up to date with emerging technologies and innovations in the insurance industry, which may include participation in industry product groups. All job duties and responsibilities must be carried out in compliance with applicable legal and regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Lead market research efforts. Identify CL Customer product needs, preferences, and industry trends as inputs into the commercial lines strategies.
  • Assess competitor landscape by evaluating insurance offerings, distribution strategies, technology offerings, value-added services and marketing strategies as part of product discovery process.
  • Analyze agency and customer behavior data to derive insights to inform new and existing product development decisions; provide research-based recommendations for product enhancements and new feature development.
  • Develop and maintain communication tools and processes. Communicate actionable findings to the standard commercial organizations including regular quarterly and ad-hoc research analysis reports.
  • Align to Product Roadmap and collaborate with product management team, product council and key stakeholders to align research findings as an input into the product roadmap.
  • Gather feedback from regional and corporate employees, customers and distribution partners. Lead the efforts to conduct employee interviews, user interviews, surveys, and usability analysis on insurance offerings and product capabilities.
  • Assess industry innovations to stay up to date with emerging technologies and innovations in the insurance industry and communicate findings across the organization; this may include participation in industry product groups.
  • Lead the delivery of presentations to stakeholders, sharing research findings and product insights.
  • Continuously refine research methodologies. Actively collaborate and share insights with other research teams across the organization.
  • Position requires 10-15% travel and a valid driver’s license.

Qualifications

Knowledge and Requirements

  • College degree in Market Research, Business/Marketing, Risk Management, Data Science, or related field preferred.
  • 10 years of experience in product research and/or data analytics with strong analytical skills and ability to analyze data sets, diagnose opportunities, and convert results into business value statements.
  • Significant proficiency with research methodologies/platforms and data visualization tools to communicate actionable results to wide audience
  • Keeps abreast of industry emerging practice and best-in-class product research initiatives and strategies.

The actual base salary is based on geographic location, and the range is representative of salaries for this role throughout Selective's footprint. Additional considerations include relevant education, qualifications, experience, skills, performance, and business needs.

Pay Range

USD $146,000.00 - USD $209,000.00 /Yr.
