Description
The Family Educator will work within the SEI Parent Child Development Services program (PCDS) to coordinate; child development services, social services, health services, parent support services, and parent education services to families with children ages zero to six years of age. The Family Educator is responsible for planning safe, and developmentally and culturally appropriate, parent-child activities in social settings that meet the needs of each family. This includes both providing visits to family homes and facilitating interactive group opportunities. The Family Educator will work in partnership with community agencies and schools to coordinate and deliver services. The Family Educator must be; patient, empathetic, and able to resolve conflicts, gentle, loving, creative, and resourceful with demonstrated ability to work effectively with a wide variety of people.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Assist families in strengthening; positive parent-child interactions, bonding & attachment, brain development, motor skills development, guidance, and discipline techniques.

Conduct home visits as needed; and at least once per month, for each enrolled child.

Organize and facilitate Parent Education and Support groups (i.e. Parenting Class and Parent Support Group).

Provide coordinated services that facilitate parent growth in social and emotional areas related to their child.

Maintain updated records and files, along with all additional required documentation. This entails the ability to work effectively in both the Service Point and Efforts to Outcomes (ETO) data tracking systems.

Maintain casefiles and complete required paperwork and assessments as needed (i.e. ASQ’s, health record, family service plan, milestone records, etc.)

Determine Childs learning stage and make referrals to community partners as needed.

Other appropriate duties as assigned
Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in a related field and at least two years experience in early childhood programs, social services, or parent/family education highly desired.

Significant training and work experience (three plus years) in a social service environment may be substituted for the education requirement.

Knowledge of community resources.

Ability to successfully connect with and motivate parents and family members.

Ability to be a positive role model for parents and children.

Ability to successfully engage a wide spectrum of parents; from intensive-need to leadership.

Must be self motivated with excellent organizational skills.

Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite.

Willingness to work flexible hours, including some evenings and some weekends.

Must have valid driver’s license, clean driving record and must be insurable under SEI’s auto insurance.
