Position Summary : Administers and manages the day-to-day operations of the Senior Center program, oversees department budgets, ensures provision of services, implements and maintains sanitary and safety standards, and supervises workers involved in providing nutritional, emotional, physical, intellectual and culturally diverse services to clients and the community at large.

Principal Responsibilities :

  • Direct and administer program in conformity with agency and funders’ guidelines, make recommendations, and advocate and report on program’s activities to VP Senior Communities.Ensure the smooth functioning of the department, including answering the phone when necessary, supplying information, coordinating daily administrative tasks, etc.
  • Plan, evaluate, and oversee financial budgets with daily oversight of fiscal matters.Coordinate fiscal work with the bookkeeping department.
  • Supervise PSRLs, volunteers, and student interns, including designating staff assignments and establishing work priorities.
  • Submit monthly statistical reports to Selfhelp and DFTA, including the timely submission of all service records and reports, payroll and attendance, and SPP statistics to DFTA.
  • Oversee staffing, including supervise social work staff, train staff or assign appropriate training / in-service, designate staff assignments, establish work priorities, meet with staff at least once a month, and participate in the selection and termination of staff.
  • Evaluate workload and capacity of staff to determine feasibility of expanding or enhancing services to clients.
  • Act as liaison of agency to community, establish and maintain relationships with other community organizations and local politicians, conduct public relations activities (i.e. prepare or oversee preparation of flyers and newsletters), and oversee outreach to target population.
  • Develop work goals and department projects and assign and coordinate projects.Modify, test, and correct existing program and service components as necessary and, in general, review completed projects to ensure that goals are met and that programs are compatible with agency and funders' policies and regulations.
  • Oversee and maintain proper functioning and upkeep of physical facility.
  • Oversee all social services, including case assistance / management, legislative grant program, senior partners, telephone reassurance, intergenerational programs, social action committee, all groups and center classes and programs, etc.
  • Complete and submit by the established target date all performance evaluations on staff within scope of responsibility.
  • Review social worker’s client service plans to ensure Selfhelp, funding, and regulatory objectives and specifications are met.Review case roles of community workers, including but not limited to intervention plan, on-going cases and work-log.Disseminate information regarding changes in policies and procedures affecting rights and entitlement.
  • Conduct weekly staff meetings and attend monthly Directors’ meeting and other Selfhelp managerial meetings and training.
  • Plan and implement fundraising activities for the center, and monitor grant programs to insure program meets projected goals.
  • Participate in Department For The Aging training and adhere to all DFTA standards and guidelines.
  • Meet and maintain safety and sanitary procedures and ensure compliance with building, fire and health department codes.Holds regular fire drills as mandated by city fire department and trains staff in emergency procedures.
  • Meet with the cook & the menu planning committee to discuss meal improvements, and submit menu plans to the DFTA Nutritionist quarterly.
  • Supervise the cook in the purchasing, receiving and storage of food, supplies and equipment, including controlling and maintaining food costs through purchasing, proper record keeping and inventory control.
  • Ensure the sanitary standards of food services and entire center through supervision of the cook and the maintenance worker.
  • Oversee Policy Advisory Council (PAC)
  • Editor of the monthly Latimer Chronicle.
  • Compile Monthly ESL Statistic for Housing and Senior Centers
  • Compile NYCHA statistics and submit on the first of each month.
  • Promote ongoing working relationship with NYCHA.
  • Promote ongoing working relationship and collaborations with the NYCHA Latimer Gardens Tenants.
  • Promote ongoing working relationship and collaborations with the Child Center of New York.
  • Perform other duties as needed or requested.
  • Adheres to organization’s standards by completing annual mandatory trainings in a timely manner on topics including – but not limited to – Sexual Harassment Prevention Training, IT Security Awareness, Compliance, OSHA, HIPAA and any other training the organization may deem necessary in regards to regulatory compliance or good business practices.
  • Supports organization’s mission by striving for excellence in all aspects of their job with a focus on positive interpersonal relationship with co-workers.
  • Adheres to the organization’s policy in regards to absenteeism and appearance and health and safety standards.

Salary Ranges : $79,000 - $81,400 commensurate with experience

Job Competencies & Minimum Qualifications :

  • Master's degree, Social Work (MSW) or related field preferred, with a minimum of 5 years of work experience including human services; at least one year in a supervisory / administrative position
  • Fluency in Mandarin & English required
  • NYS license and registration to practice as a Licensed or Certified Social Worker in New York State preferred
  • Supervises the social work and support staff in the program. Where applicable manages one or more subordinate supervisor(s) who manage one or more employees; interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems
  • Computer literate
  • Excellent verbal, mathematical, and written skills
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Able to multi-task and work independently with a great attention to detail
  • Working Conditions / Physical Demand :

  • Business office environment with phone and computer use.
  • Must frequently lift and / or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and / or move up to 25 pounds.
  • Occasional exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals, outside weather conditions, pathogens, and unsanitary conditions in client’s homes.
