This is a full-time grant funded position. Durability of this position is based on the funding availability of the Adult General Education (AGE) grant.

DESCRIPTION:
The Specialist, Adult Education pro-actively advises and supports Adult Education students to achieve their educational goals. Assists staff and faculty with resources and program activities. Provides interventions and implementation strategies to increase retention.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Cultivates and maintains on-going relationships with Adult Education students for proactive advising, planning, and registering for courses in order to positively impact retention.
2. Advises and follows up with students who require retention strategies in collaboration with faculty and staff.
3. Assists program staff with related procedures, resources, logistics, and program activities.
4. Assists faculty with necessary resources to adhere to program curriculum and deadlines.
5. Provides interventions and implementation strategies related to attendance, poor performance, or inappropriate classroom conduct to increase success/retention.
6. Advises individual students with program concerns/issues for feedback and academic support.
7. Assists with proctoring and interpreting results of student assessment testing tools for Adult Education students.
8. Refers students to other departments (e.g. Disability Support Services) for in-depth services.
9. Promotes increase of GED graduates to credit and career programs.
10. Performs other duties as may be required or assigned.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Bachelor’s degree from a regionally or nationally accredited institution.
2. Two years of experience in education (psychology, counseling, mental health, student advising, student services or related field).
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Experience working with adult learners.
2. Bilingual in Spanish.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
1. Excellent customer service skills, planning and organization skills, and critical thinking ability.
2. Excellent verbal, written, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills.
3. Excellent Microsoft Office skills (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and the ability to become proficient using videoconferencing applications, including Teams/Zoom.
4. Ability to work with limited supervision and in fast-paced environment.
5. Skills in assisting students set their education and career goals/objectives.
6. Skills in understanding and addressing the needs of a multiculturally diverse socio-economic student population.
7. Ability to exhibit a professional, courteous demeanor.
WORK ENVIRONMENT and SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS:
1. Works inside in an office/classroom environment.
2. Required to work frequent evenings and weekends, based on term needs and activities.
3. Required to travel between campuses and local destinations for events and training.

Conditions of Employment:
Finalists and individuals recommended for employment at Seminole State College must reside in the State of Florida at the time of hire and may be subject to background investigations and fingerprinting in compliance with Florida Statute 1001.64; and Seminole State College Policy 1.020; 2.020. Criminal background checks and fingerprinting will be conducted for all new employees, and for rehired employees who have had a break in service for one year or more. The Office of Human Resources will determine which background checks shall be conducted for each position, based upon its review of job descriptions and the responsibilities of the position. These include, but are not limited to, positions that have access to money, master keys, security-sensitive areas and confidential information; positions that have the capability to create, delete, and alter records; and positions that are responsible for the care and instruction of children.
