Responsibilities

DESCRIPTION:
The Director, Nursing Simulation Center ensures the effective operation and delivery of high-quality simulation experiences aligned with the Nursing curriculum. Collaborates with faculty and staff to schedule sessions, prepare simulation environments, and manage high-fidelity simulators while providing technical support and supervising personnel. This position also maintains advanced simulation equipment, trains staff on simulation technology, recommends budget allocations, manages inventory, and ensures compliance with policies. Represents the college at events, highlighting nursing and simulation activities.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Oversees the Nursing Simulation Center to ensure smooth operations and consistent, high-quality simulation experiences. Collaborates with faculty to coordinate and schedule simulation sessions, ensuring alignment with the curriculum.
2. Collaborates with faculty and staff in preparing simulation environments, including setting up all equipment, props, and scenarios ensuring alignment with Nursing curriculum objectives.
3. Coordinates the use of Standardized Participants in simulations and facilitates simulation sessions by operating the equipment and providing technical support. Trains faculty and staff in the use of simulation technology and best practices.
4. Supervises staff including hiring, coaching, mentoring, scheduling, and evaluates performance.
5. Operates and maintains high-fidelity simulators, task trainers, and other essential simulation equipment. Troubleshoot and perform basic maintenance on simulation equipment and software.
6. Provides support to faculty in planning, designing, organizing, and delivering simulation and laboratory activities for students.
7. Recommends budget allocation and assists with inventory management for Nursing Simulation Center.
8. Maintains accurate records of simulation activities, develop compliance policies, and assist in preparing reports, budgets, and grant applications related to simulation activities.
9. Implements improvements to enhance the quality and effectiveness of simulation-based education by debriefing with faculty and students after simulations, reviewing performance, reinforcing learning objectives, and collecting feedback for continuous improvement.
10. Conducts tours for internal and external stakeholders and represent the college at events, highlighting nursing and simulation activities.
11. Continuously updates and refines simulation experiences based on identified needs and serves as a resource for internal and external partners utilizing simulation learning activities.
12. Performs other duties as may be required or assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Master’s degree from a regionally or nationally accredited institution in Nursing.
2. Unencumbered active Florida RN License.
3. Two (2) years of clinical nursing experience.
4. One (1) year experience in simulation education, including familiarity with high-fidelity simulators and related technology.
5. Experience in leadership or managing of staff.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator (CHSE) Certification or comparable certification.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
1. Knowledge of nursing practices, compliance standards, policies and procedures related to simulation-based education, and healthcare technology and ability to integrate them into lab activities.
2. Knowledge of Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations and compliance requirements, accreditation standards, and International Nursing Association for Clinical Simulation and Learning (INACSL) simulation standards.
3. Proficient in the functionality, operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of simulation technology, including high-fidelity simulators and audiovisual equipment.
4. Ability to coordinate and supervise work of assigned staff.
5. Ability to actively engage in continuous learning through workshops, conferences, and certification programs to enhance professional expertise.
6. Ability to successfully develop and manage relationships at all levels of the organization and with external stakeholders, lead and motivate staff to achieve objectives.
7. Excellent organization skills and attention to detail.
8. Excellent MS Office Skills (Word, Excel and PowerPoint).
9. Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
10. Excellent oral, written, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills.
11. Ability to exhibit a professional courteous demeanor and interact effectively with students, faculty, and supervisors.
12. Committed to working in a multicultural environment.

WORK ENVIRONMENT and SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS:
1. Works in a classroom/laboratory setting.
2. Must be able to lift, move, carry, and arrange equipment and mannequins up to 30 pounds with assistance.
3. May be required to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends.
4. Ability to travel between campuses and local destinations when needed.

The College anticipates that the position’s incumbent must be available throughout the workday and, on some occasions, after regular work hours. Therefore, as a condition of employment, the incumbent is expected to carry a personal cell phone and is required to provide their current cell phone number to the Office of Human Resources and to their immediate supervisor.

This position is not eligible for Veteran’s Preference.

Conditions of Employment

Finalists and individuals recommended for employment at Seminole State College must reside in the State of Florida at the time of hire and may be subject to background investigations and fingerprinting in compliance with Florida Statute 1001.64; and Seminole State College Policy 1.020; 2.020. Criminal background checks and fingerprinting will be conducted for all new employees, and for rehired employees who have had a break in service for one year or more. The Office of Human Resources will determine which background checks shall be conducted for each position, based upon its review of job descriptions and the responsibilities of the position. These include, but are not limited to, positions that have access to money, master keys, security-sensitive areas and confidential information; positions that have the capability to create, delete, and alter records; and positions that are responsible for the care and instruction of children. The College will conduct various types of background checks which may include, but are not limited to: criminal background, credit check, driver's license check, previous employment and references.
