PRIMARY OBJECTIVE : To assist in supervising front-end functions. To contribute toward ensuring a positive shopping environment for customers and a positive working environment for employees.
NATURE AND SCOPE : Emphasis in this position is assisting the Front-End Manager with supervision of front-end policies and procedures, office procedures, clerk performance, labor control and customer relations. Primary learning challenge is in supervising the cashiers and baggers, monitoring labor and understanding bookkeeping procedures as well as reviewing management reports. This position requires ongoing social skills / verbal interaction, judgment / decision making, listening skills, reading, walking, standing and the ability to work under pressure. Position functions and work hours may vary according to business needs. All assignments and work direction are provided by the Front-End Manager or person in charge.
ESSENTIAL POSITION FUNCTIONS :
- Assist in supervising front-end activity to ensure positive customer relations and accurate, prompt checkout
Effectively communicate clerk and bagger priorities, policies and procedures and delegate accordingly
Ensure proper customer relationsEnsure correct product handling and scanning techniquesEnsure adherence to Company policyEnsure proper handling of all forms of tender and couponsEnsure price checks are obtainedIf item not in the system a scan error receipt is completed as necessaryAuthorize check cashingEnsure front-end cleanliness and organization to include filling bags and keeping front-end clear of shopping cartsEnsure proper etiquette is used for the telephone and the paging systemAssist in performing daily store accounting proceduresConduct scheduled reports for use in daily accounting activities
Balance and reconcile all cashier reports and communicate with management regarding over / shortsPerform check encodingEnsure adequate amounts of change on hand and follow procedure in ordering and receiving changeFollow procedure for bank depositsFollow procedure for reporting store accounting data, sales and deposits using total store recap sheets and safe count sheetFollow procedure for handling cash and check for accountability and securityCheck credit and debit totals dailyVerify safe count dailyFollow procedure for ending days business and beginning new period, including entering day’s deposit informationProperly handle in-store customer chargesFollow procedure for coupon handlingNotify management of any bookkeeping problemsMaintain safe, tills and locks on all doors for securityMaintain confidentiality regarding sales and cash on handAssist in developing and implementing weekly work plan for Front-EndMonitor schedule to actual and make front-end coverage adjustments to customer volume
Assist in performing front-end personnel functionsConduct or supervise training and assess retraining needs
Recommend and administer disciplinary actionRecommend employees for advancement or special recognitionCommunicate and work with the Store Director in charge as appropriate to above functions in absence of the Front-End ManagerAssist with reviewing reports and taking appropriate actionReview voids and refunds for proper authorization and handling
Check accuracy of bookkeeping reports and depositsMaintain NSF check fileEnsure cash inventory control for accountingReview daily cashier exception reportsAssist in supervising front-end security proceduresEnsure employees know and are able to implement emergency procedures
Ensure proper authorization for admittance to security areasPerform random clerk coupon auditsPerform daily coupon auditsAssist in monitoring front-end safetyObserve for unsafe conditions, ensure accidents are reported immediately and ensure front- end personnel are properly trained in safety procedures guidelines
Ensure no one under 18 years of age operates hazardous equipmentEnsure the use of personal protective devices when necessaryReport and ensure all defective equipment is repairedPerform cashiering dutiesScan and process customers’ orders
Greet and thank all customers and provide prompt and courteous serviceEnsure positive customer relations and satisfactionEnsure proper handling of tender and couponsFollow front-end security proceduresAssist with front-end cleaning and maintenancePerform customer service dutiesGive breaks to the customer service cashiers
Handle customer needs and refund in the appropriate mannerAnswer the telephone as timely as possible with a friendly positive toneDirect phone calls to the appropriate personnelEnsure breaks and lunches are given on a timely scheduleDirect clerks and baggers where they will work when beginning their shiftSell gift cardsDirect guests and vendors to the appropriate areaBag groceries for customersMake sure groceries are properly bagged for each customer
Supervise clerks and baggers to make sure they are bagging correctlyMaintain the employee loungeEnsure each night a clerk cleans the lounge and empties the garbage
Make sure the refrigerators are cleaned on a timely basisCheck to see all appliances are in working order
Follow all store and department policies and proceduresParticipate in and contribute to store management meetingsFUNCTIONAL REQUIREMENTS :
