Position Description

The Senior Learning & Development Specialist is responsible for planning and implementation of services and programs to enhance recruitment, retention, development and promotion of Seneca employees within SGC. Responsibilities include : design and implementation of workshops and training to develop knowledge, skills and abilities of Seneca Leadership participant; coaching of participant clients in developing career plans, searching for outside training resources which meet development needs, advocating with business management to create opportunities for enrolled Seneca advancement; coaching and counseling participants on business management practices. All duties are to be performed with the guidelines of the Seneca Gaming Corporation's policies and procedures, Internal Control Standards and objectives.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop, design and implement effective strategies to recruit, retain, develop and promote qualified Seneca employees.
  • Promote compliance with and understanding of the Seneca Career Development Policy and the Seneca Nation of Indians Tribal Employment Rights Ordinance (TERO) as related to training and employment opportunity.
  • Maintain information systems to insure that employment, training, and education data are accurate and current; and generate reports, as requested, to insure appropriate services, programs, and participation.
  • Maintain communication systems and methods to insure appropriate notification and effective public relations within SGC and the Seneca communities.
  • Assist in all aspects to insure that Seneca Leadership programs meet the needs of Seneca employees and are administered in an efficient and equitable manner.
  • Provide guidance to Seneca employees, either individually or in groups, regarding career ladders, learning, and general knowledge of opportunities within SGC.
  • Liaison with departments to advance Seneca Career Development to proactively seek opportunities, determine required knowledge, skills and abilities, project future opportunities and explore training options.
  • Advocate for Native employees in general, as needed.
  • Cooperate with the Seneca Gaming Authority to ensure compliance with all rules and regulations of the Seneca Gaming Corporation.
  • Maintain a current understanding of all policy and guidelines regarding information security including the Seneca Gaming Corporation Acceptable Use Policy. Understand and comply with all information security policies and procedures at all times.
  • Provide exceptional customer service to all patrons and communicates in a pleasant, friendly and professional manner at all times. Maintain a professional work environment with supervisors, managers and staff.
  • Meet the attendance guidelines of the job and adhere to regulatory, departmental and company policies.
  • Must complete all required SGC Training programs within nine (9) months from commencement of employment.
  • Attend all necessary meetings.
  • Duties, responsibilities, requirements and expectations pertaining to this job are subject to change as needed. Hours are determined by a 24-hour schedule.

Position Requirements

Eachposition has varying minimum qualifications. In the absence of fullyqualified candidates, some requirements may be waived.

Education / Experience :

  • Must be 18 years of age or older upon employment.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required. Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience preferred.
  • Five (5) to seven (7) years of program development / training experience; supervisory or management experience preferred.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and analytical skills required.
  • Successful candidate must be an experienced, results oriented, hands-on professional
  • Experience working with Native constituents in a professional capacity.
  • Ability to consult with all levels of the organization, and model professionalism.
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to respond to complaints and concerns from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business and Native community.
  • Ability to present information to all levels of management and constituent groups including Seneca employees and the SGC.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, draw valid conclusions and provide options for resolution.
  • Must demonstrate leadership, fairness, and sensibility to the customers and employees.
  • Knowledge of office machines is required including copier, personal computer, calculator and typewriter.
  • Computer proficiency with office programs including Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel and scheduling software.
  • Must be able to work in an intense and fast-paced environment where a high degree of concentration is necessary to perform the required job duties.
  • Must present a professional appearance and demeanor in dealing with the general public.

When on the casino floor, the noise levels increase to loud. Must be able to work in an environment where smoking is permitted.

  • Must be able to stand, walk, and move through all areas of the casino.
  • Maintain physical stamina and proper mental attitude to work under pressure in a fast-paced, casino environment and effectively deal with customers, management, employees, and members of the business community in all situations.
  • Adequate manual dexterity to operate office equipment.
  • Light lifting.
  • Occasional travel.
  • Must be able to effectively understand and communicate to candidates and employees.
