The Senior Firewall Network Engineer is responsible for implementing and overseeing firewall policies based on input from the Information Security Team. This role acts as a liaison between Information Security and Networking teams, ensuring effective communication and collaboration.
Required Education, Qualifications, and Experience:
- 6 years of experience with Palo Alto Networks firewalls (healthcare industry experience preferred).
- PCNSE certification preferred.
- Strong technical knowledge of networking systems, protocols, firewalls, load balancers, and VPN technologies.
- Experience with network monitoring and troubleshooting tools.
- Cisco CCNA certification or equivalent knowledge preferred.
- 2 years of team leadership experience preferred.
- Proficiency in recording and interpreting TCP/IP packet captures.
- Relevant Microsoft certifications.
- Skills in automation languages (Python, Java, Perl, etc.) are a plus.
Nice to Have:
- SDWAN experience.
- Prisma experience.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with the Project Management Office and application system owners to guide system designers on firewall requirements.
- Advise business partners on B2B VPN requirements and document VPN configurations and communication flows.
- Maintain system communication design documents for all systems traversing firewalls.
- Assist other teams in troubleshooting firewall issues by analyzing logs and interpreting TCP/IP packet captures.
- Ensure firewall appliances are up to date with OS versions, antivirus signatures, threat databases, and associated licenses.
- Stay informed about emerging firewall technologies, evaluate new features, and provide recommendations to IT management.
- Perform firewall hardware break/fix replacements and upgrades as needed.
- Monitor Service Desk incidents and request tickets, taking ownership or delegating as necessary.
- Participate as an active member of the Technical Review Board and Change Advisory Board for system change management.
- Initiate effective communication with IT teams for planning, decision-making, and management needs.
- Maintain clear communication with health system departments, users, and user groups.
- Conduct research on firewall network products, services, and standards for procurement and development efforts.
- Establish connectivity and uptime service level agreements.
- Support and ensure compliance with Administrative Procedures and directives.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Manager of Information Systems.
Remote/Onsite Schedule:
- Hybrid schedule for the first 3 months (on-site 3-4 days per week for onboarding and training).
- After 3 months, hybrid or remote options will be discussed with the manager.
- On-call schedule: once every 12 weeks.
