Adult Day Services Program Assistant - 70 hours per week
People Helping People has been the foundation of Senior Friendship Centers for over 50 years, and we are looking for a dynamic Adult Day Services Program Assistant! The Program Assistant will be play an essential role in assisting with the daily operation of the Adult Day Services programs. We are seeking a positive and friendly individual who thrives on living out our values of respect, integrity, collaboration, and compassion.
Our Adult Day Services Programs offers a safe and welcoming place to spend the day for loved ones dealing with dementia or other frailties of aging. Our guests enjoy engaging activities, music, art/pet therapy, cognitive stimulation, socialization, cozy fireplaces, comfy chairs, and a spacious outdoor area.

Essential Functions:
Operational:
- Assists with the daily functions and activities of the Adult Day Services (ADS) Program.
- Remains actively engaged with clients at all times, to include, but not limited to: initiate conversation with clients, seek to understand client wants and needs, promote positive attitude with clients at all times, and encourage client participation in activities.
- Actively contributes to creating and maintaining a clean, orderly, bright, and welcoming environment
- Ensures space and furniture are cleaned, sanitized, and organized at end of each day
- Communicates in a positive, courteous, and professional manner with clients and their families, co-workers, referral agencies, and the community at large
- Maintains an understanding and awareness of all aspects of the program.
- Plans and implements assigned therapeutic activity programs for ADS clients.
- Evaluates and implements assistance needed with activities of daily living; ADLs. (i.e. ambulation, toileting, transfers, eating, etc.)
- Assists with maintenance of participant rosters, including attendance, sign-in, and meal service.
- Ability to understand and follow food safety and compliance standards.
- Communicates and documents participant-specific observations, interests, and needs.
- Embraces new technologies and concepts as the program needs grow.
- Assists with administrative work as directed.
- Willing and able to flex work hours to meet program staffing needs.
- Reports any incident of abuse or neglect as mandated by state guidelines.
- Must comply with HIPAA regulations and OSHA laws and safety guidelines.
Organizational:
- Attend staff meetings, training, and seminars as required. Participate in fundraising and outreach activities to promote the organization’s mission.
- Must comply with all Senior Friendship Centers personnel policies.
- Must protect the safety and health of staff, volunteers, participants, and others by observing and following the organization’s safety and incident policies.
Supervisory Responsibilities:

- Work environment may vary between locations and include stairs and a moderate noise level.
- ADS staff may also assist clients outside the building on company property.

Education, Experience, Licenses, and Certifications:
- High School Diploma/GED or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, ability, and skills to perform the essential functions of the job.
- Experience working with elders with cognitive and physical impairments.
- Experience presenting social, recreational, and educational programs to adults is desirable.
- Certification in CPR and First Aid is preferred.
- Must have experience using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and other computer software, or the ability to quickly learn the organization’s systems.
- Basic computer skills are required for administrative tasks.
Physical Demands:
- Prolonged periods sitting, walking, and standing.
- Must be able to lift 20 pounds.
- Must be able to navigate various departments of a physical location.
- Must be able to assist potentially frail seniors in wheelchairs or using assistive devices.
Travel:
- Occasional travel to other ADS program locations to assist with program duties and training may be requested.
- Travel within the several counties in which Senior Friendship Centers Inc. operates may be required as frequently as needed to support operations, fundraising, and outreach.
- Must have reliable transportation.
- A valid driver’s license and proof of insurance are required for all work-related travel.
Additional eligibility requirements:
- Satisfactory clearance of a fingerprint-based level II background screening, tuberculosis screen, and pre-employment substance abuse testing is required.
- Must be authorized to work in the United States.
