What are the responsibilities and job description for the Electrical - Shop Foreman position at Sentry?
Electrical – Shop Foreman Lead the Heart of Our Electrical Operations
At Sentry, we’re redefining what it means to be a construction and EPC firm. We self-perform electrical work from concept to commissioning—with in-house teams, shop fabrication, and boots-on-the-ground field crews working together to deliver results. Our work spans commercial, industrial, agricultural, renewable energy, and infrastructure projects, and our electrical division plays a foundational role in ensuring we meet aggressive schedules without compromising on safety or quality.
As our Electrical Shop Foreman, you’ll lead the internal engine that keeps our prefab, inventory, and material logistics running smoothly—especially on the trucking and delivery side of our electrical division. This is a boots-on-the-ground leadership role built for someone who’s highly organized, thrives in a team environment, and is driven to keep operations moving forward.
What You’ll Do
This role includes a healthy mix of leadership, coordination, logistics, and process improvement. You’ll oversee direct reports and work closely with the Sentry electrical team—including project managers, field electricians, and fabrication techs. The success of this role directly impacts our ability to execute on tight schedules, maintain safety, and deliver top-tier quality.
Key Responsibilities:
- Own and manage all aspects of daily operations within the Electrical Shop—including prefabrication, panel assembly, and inventory management.
- Supervise and support a team of shop technicians: set expectations, assign daily tasks, and track completion.
- Coordinate material receiving, labeling, kitting, and job-site delivery in collaboration with purchasing and warehouse teams.
- Conduct routine inventory cycle counts, maintain accuracy, and implement restock strategies.
- Facilitate quality control of prefab components before they leave the shop.
- Prepare and verify Bills of Material (BOMs); collaborate with field and project teams to anticipate material needs.
- Support delivery planning with the internal trucking team; manage timelines and transportation readiness.
- Ensure all outgoing deliveries meet DOT and internal safety standards.
- Enforce OSHA regulations and Sentry’s safety policies in all shop activities.
- Lead weekly safety huddles and performance meetings; follow up on action items.
- Operate forklifts and scissor lifts in accordance with safety standards (training provided).
- Maintain an organized, clean, and hazard-free shop environment—leading by example.
- Identify layout and process improvements to optimize efficiency and reduce waste.
- Forecast workload and shop capacity in collaboration with the Electrical Superintendent.
What We’re Looking For
This position requires someone who leads from the front and keeps our internal operations flowing. You must be a confident communicator, driven by process and accountability, with the ability to support and motivate your team every day.
Preferred Skills & Attributes:
- 3–5 years of experience in an electrical shop, prefab, or construction environment.
- 1 year of supervisory or lead experience with at least 2 direct reports.
- CDL preferred (Sentry will assist qualified candidates in obtaining licensure).
- Familiarity with DOT compliance, material handling, and jobsite delivery protocols.
- Strong hands-on experience with warehouse operations and electrical material prep.
- Ability to read wiring diagrams, one-lines, and shop drawings.
- Comfortable with physical labor: bending, lifting (up to 60 lbs), climbing ladders, etc.
- Proficient in time management and multitasking; keeps team members accountable.
- Positive, team-first mindset—willing to jump in when and where needed.
