We are seeking candidates for the position of Track Equipment Operator - 1st Class (1251) - Regional Rail in the MOW / Track Department.
Compensation Data
$33.02 / hr. Increase to $36.69 / hr. after one year
OVERALL DESCRIPTION
As an experienced operator, drives, operates and maintains equipment such as Gradall, Cranes, Hydraulic Excavators, Front end loaders, Backhoes, Material handlers, Automotive Trucks, including Tractor Trailers, Dump Trucks, and special function trucks with hi-rail attachments such as log loaders, roto dumps, and boom trucks.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
- Must be proficient in the operation of tampers, rail grinders, tie inserter / extractor and other related track maintenance equipment as required.
- Operates automatic track tampers for the purpose of raising and lining track. Must be able to set up and use various manufacturer's apparatus for establishing track alignment and profile.
Must be able to plot curves and realign curves to remove deviations. Must able to use laser liners. Must be able to raise, align and tamp turnouts / crossovers.
Operates rail grinding machines for the purpose of reprofiling the rail head, removing rail corrugations and other imperfections in rail head.
Must be able to adjust individual grinding motor angles, pressure controls, spark guards and fire control apparatus. Must be able to examine rail and determine appropriate grinding settings.
- Operates tie inserter / extractor machine for the purpose of removing and installing ties and switch timber in track. Must be able to control rail lift, pull ties / timbers, and insert ties / timbers.
- Operates other track maintenance equipment such as scarifiers, spikers, ballast regulators, tie handler and roadway trains.
- Must be able to perform running maintenance on equipment including lubrication, replacement of fluid to proper levels, tire pressure and cleaning of equipment.
- Install all necessary attachments, such as, hydraulic accessories and hoist cables as required.
- Inspects and maintains rigging and lifting apparatus for safely and submits daily inspection reports. Must rig all types of load and equipment for lifting and transporting over the highway and rail.
- Works from written orders and telephone instructions. Makes written service and maintenance reports of all equipment used;
submits daily reports of equipment operating conditions.
Makes running repairs such as : replacing worn pads on hydraulic cranes, changing hydraulic filters and oil, changing flat tires.
Replaces hydraulic hoses and boom head sheave, and spot paints equipment as required. Assists mechanic and / or equipment repairperson in major repairs on all equipment.
- Directs and assists activities of lower and other classes as required.
- Complies with all Authority and departmental safety and security policies and procedures as well as all applicable job safety responsibilities.
Reports any safety concerns, compromises or hazards affecting operations, the public, self and / or other employees. Responsible for personal safety and is encouraged to promote the safety of others.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- Must have previous related Track Equipment Operation experience.
- High School diploma or GED required.
- Must satisfactorily complete all preliminary written and performance tests.
- Must become familiar with SEPTA's system, general and departmental rules and regulations.
- Must possess tools pertinent to this position.
- Subject to be called during storms and emergencies. Subject to working in traffic. Works in close proximity to overhead power wires and high voltage conductors.
Carries heavy materials. Uses safety equipment provided. Completes all SEPTA or manufacturers classes as required.
