OVERALL DESCRIPTION
Under the supervision of the Station Managers, responsible for assisting rail passengers, making station announcements and maintaining supplies of schedule and customer service information and replenishes them as changes occur.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
- Utilize public address system and announces all commuter rail train arrivals and departures and delays. Recommends alternative routes as necessary.
- Answer informational requests regarding connecting routes, locations of interest and schedules. Assists passengers with directions and in locating destinations.
- Provide general assistance and information to our customers as required.
- Operate a public address system, and announce in clear, distinct English all information beneficial to Railroad customers.
- Make a daily report of any SEPTA items or facilities requiring maintenance or repairs; report potential safety hazards immediately and take preventative action as necessary.
- Investigates, logs, tags and maintains lost and found items on a daily basis. Assists passengers in tracking lost items from description of destination details.
- Assist, direct and guide Regional Railroad passengers. Secures lost passes and ensures proper procedures are followed for ownership determination.
- Investigates origin of purchase by tracing number designations on pass. Performs other duties as required.
- Complies with all Authority and Departmental safety and security policies and procedures, as well as all applicable job safety responsibilities. Reports any safety concerns, compromises, or hazards in the immediate working environment to Supervision and takes initiative to alleviate potential and existing hazards affecting self and other employees. Is responsible for the individual's own safety and is encouraged to promote the safety of others.
ADDITIONAL SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- Must possess high school diploma or equivalent.
- Must possess proven customer service experience, dealing directly with the public. Must satisfactorily complete SEPTA qualification tests as required (Customer Service test).
- Must have acceptable attendance and job performance.
- Must be able to lift timetable boxes, which weigh approximately 50 lbs.
- Must have the ability to communicate well verbally and in writing. Speak good, clear, distinct English over public address equipment.
- Courteous manners and a desire to serve the riding public are required.
- Familiarity with the geography and layout of all SEPTA Regional Rail lines is required.
- Familiarity with schedules, including stops and destinations, fare structure, routes, Railroad Division operating rules as they apply to Passenger Services, and SEPTA rules in general is preferred.
- Must be able to work varied shifts, including evenings, nights, weekends and holidays.
