The jobsite for this position is at 7,200 feet elevation in the Giant Sequoia National Monument/Sequoia National Forest. The Camp Chef/FSM is responsible for the food service to all of our guests and staff, and responds to the direction of the Executive Director and/or Camp Manager. The successful candidate is responsible for: 1) all aspects of food services including meal planning, meal costs, ordering, inventory management, and overseeing food preparation and service; 2) ensuring proper safety and sanitation in the kitchen and dining hall; 3) minimizing the use of pre-processed foods for our campers and staff; 4) supervising kitchen and hospitality team staff; 5) models a faith walk and disciples staff, organizations and campers; 6) responsible for monitoring the operation of the food service equipment and appliances and coordinating any necessary repairs with the Executive Director/Camp Manager or Facilities Manager; 7) instruct kitchen and hospitality staff with equal importance given to both; 8) be team oriented, willing to share ideas as well as listen to suggestions to improve the way we support one another and our guests, and ultimately how we do ministry; 9) prepares and shares performance evaluations with subordinate staff in the course of routine supervision; and 10) responsible for inventory management to minimize waste and ensure availability of necessary products when needed.
Priority consideration will be given to applicants with at least 2 years of experience working in camp or a commercial food preparation environment, with ServSafe or equivalent training. The Camp Chef/FSM is an integral part of the leadership team and will be expected to lead with character and integrity, and lead staff devotionals, with a focus on ministering to camp staff as well as our guests. The successful candidate should be able to work well in a fast paced and stressful environment, while leading their team to meet deadlines.
Sequoia Meadow is a seasonal camp located in the Sequoia National Forest/Giant Sequoia National Monument above Springville, CA. The successful candidate will live at camp during the season; between June 4 through August 7, additional weekend camps follow the main season. Additional compensation includes lodging and meals while at camp.
