Position Summary:
The teaching associate is responsible for providing assistance to the classroom teacher in preparing lesson plans and instructing students.
Essential Job Functions:
- Completes various tasks assigned by the classroom teacher, including but not limited to:
- Grading papers
- Checking homework
- Copying
- Working with individual or small groups of students
- Taking over the entire class whenever the teacher deems it necessary
- Supervises students during lunch and recess time, before and after school, and in the classroom
- Substitutes as needed in other classrooms
- Upholds and enforces school policy, administrative procedures, and school rules and regulations, and is supportive of them to the public
- Maintains appropriate work habits, including regular and punctual attendance and appropriate use of conference and planning time
- Establishes and maintains cooperative relationships with other staff members
- All other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- Graduation from high school and sufficient training and experience to demonstrate the knowledge and abilities listed above
- Able to:
- Use a computer and related software
- Use teaching and assessment materials and methods
- Plan and deliver instruction
- Evaluate behavior and performance of students
- Use equipment such as overhead projector, copy machine, video cassette recorder, binding machine, film projector and audio visual equipment
- Communicate using interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction
Physical Demands:
- Sitting, standing and walking for extended periods of time
- Read handwritten documents and other records or reports
- Some light lifting and carrying
- Hearing and speaking to exchange information in person or on the telephone
- Seeing to read a variety of materials and monitor children
- Reaching overhead, above the shoulders and horizontally to retrieve and file materials
- Bending at the waist, kneeling or crouching
Working Relationships:
- Ability to maintain confidential and positive working relationships with administrators, faculty, staff, parents, students, school and community organizations vendors and the general public
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $28.00 - $30.00 per hour
