What are the responsibilities and job description for the VP, Sales position at Sermo?

What you’ll do – Commercial Responsibilities:

  • Identify and pursue new business opportunities with leading market research organizations, consultancies and financial institutions
  • Lead capabilities presentations and pitches to potential customers. Develop new business proposals (including contributions to budget development) for potential new clients.  Work with potential customers through all aspects of the sales process including negotiation of MSA/SOW
  • As a key member of the sales team, provide input into strategic and tactical business growth plans including research/evaluation and customer/account segmentation
  • Work closely with product, client service and technology teams to assure strong collaboration across the SERMO team in support of client solutions
  • Develop a complete understanding of pricing and proposal models; demonstrate technical selling skills and product knowledge; effectively present the solutions to prospective clients
  • Build relationships and gain consensus among decision makers; sell consultatively and make recommendations to prospects and clients through the buying process, including development and deployment of the solutions
  • Materially expand opportunity pipeline through outbound sales activity
  • Target key personnel in assigned accounts - develop strong relationships and networks
  • Create and conduct effective proposal presentations and RFP responses that clearly articulate how SERMO can help to solve prospects’ business problems
  • Diligently maintain customer relationship management system (Salesforce)
  • Represent SERMO at conferences and similar events

What you’ll do – Commercial Responsibilities:

  • Collaborating with the Client Services team to ensure they are resourced and prepared to deliver commissioned projects to your client accounts - on spec, on time and on budget.
  • Lead team by delegating and allocating manageable goals to Bid Coordinators based on team needs, interests and development needs.
  • Provide employees with timely, fair and measured performance assessments and feedback to foster growth. Reward and recognize performance as appropriate. 
  • Communicate department and company strategy and direction regularly to employees so they can help drive success.
  • Working through team dynamics between Account Executives, Bid Coordinators and Client Services for workload allocation.
  • Joint responsibility to ensure staff ownership and responsibility for all members of team.
  • Resolve escalation queries – internal and external.
  • Drive cross-team training across bidding and client specific requests
  • Identify training needs and work with functional leaders to implement solutions.
  • Working with functional leaders to identify and troubleshoot challenges.
  • Working with functional leaders to recruit and train new team members.
  • Full responsibility to escalate topics to Senior Management that need urgent attention.

What’s required:

  • Integrity, passion, high-energy, and positivity
  • 7 years of proven success selling directly to healthcare companies, consultancies, and/or market research organizations
  • Proven ability to open doors and close deals
  • Strong relationships with market research, marketing, commercial operations, and field management buyers
  • Experience selling data, sample, market research, analytics products and solutions
  • Strong technical aptitude and ability to convey complex concepts in a straightforward manner
  • Proven self-leadership ability to work with cross functional teams 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • BA/BS required
