Description :
The Yard Manager is a key leadership role responsible for maintaining the highest standards of quality control for all equipment leaving our yard, overseeing daily operations, and managing yard supervisors and staff. This role ensures the facility operates smoothly, efficiently, and safely while upholding our commitment to excellence in the equipment we provide to our customers.
Job Responsibilities :
Job responsibilities include (but are not limited to) the following :
Leadership & Team Management :
Lead, mentor, and manage shift supervisors and yard employees to achieve operational goals.
Proactively recruit, hire, and train staff to meet labor demands.
Develop and manage employee work schedules to ensure adequate coverage.
Enforce company policies and work rules, including proper documentation of disciplinary actions.
Operational Excellence :
Implement and maintain quality control procedures to ensure all outgoing equipment meets cleanliness and condition standards.
Oversee daily yard operations, including facility maintenance, inventory management, and waste disposal.
Manage unit repair and cleaning schedules as well as vehicle preparation and washing routines.
Maintain and organize the yard for optimal efficiency, safety, and cleanliness.
Develop and track production metrics, enforcing performance standards for cleaning and repairs.
Emergency Preparedness :
Remain accessible by phone for emergencies.
Ensure back-up systems and communication protocols are in place to address customer emergencies and equipment breakdowns.
Collaboration & Communication :
Work closely with HR to communicate hiring needs and participate in the interview process.
Coordinate inventory counts with dispatch and operations teams.
Additional Responsibilities :
Adhere to and enforce the guidelines of the SSI / Union Labor Contract.
Provide support during peak seasons, including after-hours and weekend work.
Fill in on pick-up and delivery (P&D) operations as necessary.
Requirements : Qualifications :
Proven experience in management and organizational leadership.
Valid Chauffeur’s, Operator W / #2 Endorsement, or Class C driver’s license with an insurable driving record.
Strong safety awareness with knowledge of OSHA and DOT regulations.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Dependable, self-motivated, and able to work independently.
Strong sense of urgency and ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
Skilled in operating Forklifts and Bobcats.
Ability to safely pull and back trailers.
Work Schedule :
Flexible availability is required, including nights and weekends, especially during peak seasons. A minimum of 50 hours per week is expected.
