Position Overview
The Urban Farms Intern will participate in a 12-week summer program, starting in early June through mid-August, that introduces the application of horticulture as a therapeutic tool, as an employment pathway, and as a device for nutrition and food-use education for underserved New Yorkers facing a range of challenges. The intern works closely with the Urban Farms team in coordinating program activities while learning therapeutic horticulture techniques in a supported environment.
II. ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Meet and work with staff to understand how therapeutic horticulture is integrated into S : US services.
- Learn basic horticultural techniques and group education practices.
- Perform fieldwork in S : US community garden spaces, interacting directly with people served by S : US.
- Design and lead workshops for people served by S : US with guidance and support from the Urban Farms team.
