What are the responsibilities and job description for the Youth Sewing Instructor position at Sew on Central?
We’re looking for a patient and enthusiastic instructor to teach sewing classes for kids and teens. This role involves guiding students through beginner-friendly projects, ensuring a fun and supportive learning environment, and helping young sewists build confidence in their skills. Prior teaching experience is a plus, but a love for sewing and working with kids is a must!
Responsibilities
- Create a fun, supportive, and encouraging learning environment.
- Provide clear instructions and hands-on demonstrations for sewing techniques.
- Ensure student safety while using sewing machines, tools, and materials.
- Prepare class materials and assist with setup and cleanup, including prep for upcoming classes.
- Adapt lessons to different skill levels and learning styles.
- Develop new project ideas and samples appropriate for each sewing level.
Qualifications
- Experience teaching or working with kids/teens in a classroom, camp, or workshop setting.
- Strong sewing skills, including machine sewing and basic pattern construction.
- Ability to explain sewing techniques clearly and adjust teaching methods for different skill levels.
- Patience, enthusiasm, and a positive attitude when working with young learners.
- Strong organizational skills to manage class materials and lesson plans.
- Ability to ensure a safe learning environment, including proper use of sewing tools and machines.
- Availability for evening and weekend classes as needed.
